Observaciones sobre una reflexión heterodoxa en los Comentarii de Juan Luis Vives a la Ciudad de Dios de San Agustín
2019
The Patres ecclesiae?s works were a frequent topic of discussion at the time in which many humanists stood against the decadent medieval scholastics. That Juan Luis Vives was part of this tradition is demonstrated in his commentaries on Saint Augustine works. Despite its pedagogical function, the scholia of the Valencian author became quite subjective. In this sense, his ecdotic work or, specially, his «criticisms and censures» can be mentioned. Here, Vives strongly disapproves of the intense political and intellectual turmoil of his epoch. Thus, this article is aimed at describing those annotations in which Vives adopts such an Erasmist point of view to comment Augustine?s De Civitate Dei.…
Swoop: A Web Ontology Editing Browser
2006
In this paper, we describe Swoop, a hypermedia inspired Ontology Browser and Editor based on OWL, the recently standardized Web-oriented ontology language. After discussing the design rationale and architecture of Swoop, we focus mainly on its features, using illustrative examples to highlight its use. We demonstrate that with its web-metaphor, adherence to OWL recommendations and key unique features such as Collaborative Annotation using Annotea, Swoop acts as a useful and efficient web ontology development tool. We conclude with a list of future plans for Swoop, that should further increase its overall appeal and accessibility.
Ontology-driven Image Analysis for Histopathological Images
2010
International audience; Ontology-based software and image processing engine must cooperate in new fields of computer vision like microscopy acquisition wherein the amount of data, concepts and processing to be handled must be properly controlled. Within our own platform, we need to extract biological objects of interest in huge size and high-content microscopy images. In addition to specific low-level image analysis procedures, we used knowledge formalization tools and high-level reasoning ability of ontology-based software. This methodology made it possible to improve the expressiveness of the clinical models, the usability of the platform for the pathologist and the sensitivity or sensibi…

Graphe-Based Rules For XML Data Conversion to OWL Ontology
2010
International audience; The paper presents a flexible method to enrich and populate an existing OWL ontology from XML data based on graph-based rules. These rules are defined in order to populate automatically a new version of an OWL ontology. Today, most of data exchanged between information systems is done with the help of the XML document. Leading researches in the domain of database systems are moving to semantic model in order to store data and its semantics definition. This flexible method consists in populating an existing OWL ontology from XML data. In paper we present such a method based on the definition of a graph which represents rules that drive the populating process.
De l'usage des logiques modales pour la gestion de l'incertitude des données : application en archéologie
2015
Archaeological information systems offer methods and tools for representing collected data and performing analyses with which taking into account imperfect data is often hard to please. Our contribution describes the use of several modal logics to model and verify the effects of the consideration of uncertain data, but also to check the quality of a corpus in an in-terdisciplinary collaborative environment. The modelling and the reasoning based on uncertain data, which are studied in this article, are integrated open and extensible platform allowing to manage archaeological data. From the computing point of view, the reasoner used, based on the first order logic, provides the archaeologists…
A Graph-based Tool for the Translation of XML Data to OWL-DL Ontologies
2011
International audience; Today most of the data exchanged between information systems is done with the help of the XML syntax. Unfortunately when these data have to be integrated, the integration becomes difficult because of the semantics' heterogeneity. Consequently, leading researches in the domain of database systems are moving to semantic model in order to store data and its semantics definition. To benefit from these new systems and technologies, and to integrate different data sources, a flexible method consists in populating an existing OWL ontology from XML data. In paper we present such a method based on the definition of a graph which represents rules that drive the populating proc…
Emergsem : an approach of collaborative annotation and retrieval of images based on semantics emergent
2015
The extraction of images semantic is a process that requires deep analysis of the image content. It refers to their interpretation from a human point of view. In this lastest case, the image semantic may be generic (e.g., a vehicle) or specific (e.g., a bicycle). It consists in extracting single or multiple images semantic in order to facilitate its retrieval. These objectives clearly show that the extraction of semantic is not a new research field. This thesis deals with the semantic collaborative annotation of images and their retrieval. Firstly, it discusses how annotators could describe and represent images content based on visual information, and secondly how images retrieval could be …
La combinaison de cartographie de signatures de sélection, de re-séquençage de génomes et d'analyses d'expression révèle PARK2 et JAG2 comme nouveaux…
2015
Very few causal genes have been identified by quantitative trait loci (QTLs) mapping because of the large size ofQTLs, and most of them were identified thanks to functional links already known with the targeted phenotype. Here we propose to combine selection signature detection, SNP annotation, and expression analyses to identifycausal genes underlying QTLs. As a model, we chose experimental chicken lines divergently selected for onlyone trait, the abdominal fat weight, in which several QTLs were previously mapped. Using a new haplotypebasedstatistics exploiting the very high SNP density generated through whole genome re-sequencing, we found129 significant selective sweeps. Most of the QTLs …
The Corpus of Advanced Learner Finnish (LAS2): Database and toolkit to study academic learner Finnish
2014
This paper introduces the Corpus of Advanced Learner Finnish (LAS2), one of the existing corpora of learner Finnish. The corpus was started at the University of Turku in 2007, and the initial motivation for its collection was to make it possible to deal with novel linguistic challenges posed by academic immigration and to contribute to corpus linguistics, Finnish linguistics and the study of second language acquisition. This paper describes the typological standpoint of the LAS2, its position with respect to other corpora of learner Finnish, the compilation criteria, the annotation applied and the workflow implemented. The corpus consists of three subcorpora of written academic texts of non…
