Salience or visibility of science-related issues can be strategically projected by means of linguistic and visual resources. This article presents a methodology for examining the relations between the textual properties of popular science discourse and the visual features of accompanying images. The advantages of this approach are demonstrated through a multimodal analysis of a sample of biomedical articles from New Scientist, which reveals the frequency and distribution of selected properties of visual images, typical aspects of layout, attributed functions of the images, and their relation to the text. Public note-taking on a digital platform as a workplace practice

Unlike traditional note-taking with pen and paper, in which the note-taking process is only partially accessible to the co-participants, note-taking in the digitalized workplace may be done publicly, so that both the content of notes and the process of writing them are observable to the co-participants. Using multimodally oriented conversation analysis, this study focused on public note-taking in interaction sequences where the facilitator of a workplace project records the results of a workshop discussion on a digital platform. Introduction: This article explores the use of music and multisensory stimuli in the construction of compensatory neural networks for motoric functioning in a patient recovering from cerebellar strokes (CS). This study aimed to address the real-world clinical concern of patients having a passive role in therapy, by arousing the client’s interest and self-motivation in rehabilitation. The aim of this article is to look at the ways in which young European women staying in the city of Varanasi for long periods of time talk about India and how they negotiate their place and role as women there. There is a common travellers’ discourse that sees India as a difficult and dangerous place to a vulnerable traveler, and the encounters of colonial women with “otherness” have been widely analysed. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan puutarhaviljelyn yleistymistä ja puutarhaneuvonnan vastaanottoa maamme syrjäseudulla 1900-luvun aikana. Suomalaisen puutarhakulttuurin ydinalue sijoittuu Etelä- ja Lounais-Suomeen, jossa väestön varallisuus, sivistystaso ja ilmasto mahdollistivat puutarhaviljelyn esimerkiksi kartanoissa jo varhain. Myös pappiloiden ja virkatalojen tiheä verkosto sekä julkiset istutukset edesauttoivat sekä kasvien että viljelytaitojen leviämistä kaikkiin kansankerroksiin. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan, millaisia merkityksiä kansakunnalle, kansalliselle kulttuurille ja niiden kehittymisen edellytyksille annettiin sanomalehti Suomettaressa vuonna 1863. Samana vuonna pidetyt, autonomian ajan toiset valtiopäivät on määritelty keskeiseksi tapahtumaksi Suomen valtiolliselle olemassaololle. Niiden lähestyminen vilkastutti lehdistön kirjoittelua tärkeinä pidetyistä asioista. Suometar oli tuolloin yksi suurimmista sanomalehdistä ja tärkein fennomaanilehti.
