HTML5 un Adobe AIR hibrīdo mobilo lietotņu izstrādes salīdzinājums
2015
Analyzing big datasets of genomic sequences: fast and scalable collection of k-mer statistics
2019
Abstract Background Distributed approaches based on the MapReduce programming paradigm have started to be proposed in the Bioinformatics domain, due to the large amount of data produced by the next-generation sequencing techniques. However, the use of MapReduce and related Big Data technologies and frameworks (e.g., Apache Hadoop and Spark) does not necessarily produce satisfactory results, in terms of both efficiency and effectiveness. We discuss how the development of distributed and Big Data management technologies has affected the analysis of large datasets of biological sequences. Moreover, we show how the choice of different parameter configurations and the careful engineering of the …
Effektiv integrasjon av Java servlets i Apache web-tjener
2000
Review of Oklahoma: Kiowa Military Societies: Ethnohistory And Ritual, by William C. Meadows
2011
William C. Meadows’ book represents the last significant ethnographical work to result from over twenty years of anthropological observation among the Kiowa, Comanche and Apache. The presented case-study of these indigenous military societies focuses on their strong martial ethos and warrior culture that preserves peculiar and secular social sodalities over time.
Mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin predicts poor outcome in non-selected patients admitted to an intensive care unit.
2018
AbstractBackgroundMortality risk and outcome in critically ill patients can be predicted by scoring systems, such as APACHE and SAPS. The identification of prognostic biomarkers, simple to measure upon admission to an intensive care unit (ICU) is an open issue. The aim of this observational study was to assess the prognostic value of plasma mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proADM) at ICU admission in non-selected patients in comparison to Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHEII) and Simplified Acute Physiology Score II (SAPSII) scores.MethodsAPACHEII and SAPSII scores were calculated after 24 h from ICU admission. Plasma MR-proADM levels were measured by TRACE-Kryptor…
DALI: Defining Antibiotic Levels in Intensive Care Unit Patients: Are Current -Lactam Antibiotic Doses Sufficient for Critically Ill Patients?
2014
Background. Morbidity and mortality for critically ill patients with infections remains a global healthcare problem. We aimed to determine whether α-lactam antibiotic dosing in critically ill patients achieves concentrations associated with maximal activity and whether antibiotic concentrations affect patient outcome.Methods. This was a prospective, multinational pharmacokinetic point-prevalence study including 8 α-lactam antibiotics. Two blood samples were taken from each patient during a single dosing interval. The primary pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic targets were free antibiotic concentrations above the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the pathogen at both 50% (50% f TMIC) an…
Bulbar impairment score predicts noninvasive volume-cycled ventilation failure during an acute lower respiratory tract infection in ALS.
2015
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients can suffer episodes of lower respiratory tract infections (LRTI) leading to an acute respiratory failure (ARF) requiring noninvasive ventilation (NIV).To determine whether clinical or functional parameters can predict noninvasive management failure during LRTI causing ARF in ALS.A prospective study involving all ALS patients with ARF requiring NIV in a Respiratory Care Unit. NIV was provided with volume-cycled ventilators.63 ALS patients were included (APACHE II: 14.93±3.56, Norris bulbar subscore (NBS): 18.78±9.68, ALSFRS-R: 19.90±6.98, %FVC: 40.01±18.07%, MIC: 1.62±0.74L, PCF 2.51±1.15L/s, PImax -34.90±19.44cmH2O, PEmax 51.20±28.84cmH2O). In 73…
Impaired cerebrovascular autoregulation in patients with severe sepsis and sepsis-associated delirium
2012
Introduction Sepsis-associated delirium (SAD) increases morbidity in septic patients and, therefore, factors contributing to SAD should be further characterized. One possible mechanism might be the impairment of cerebrovascular autoregulation (AR) by sepsis, leading to cerebral hypo- or hyperperfusion in these haemodynamically unstable patients. Therefore, the present study investigates the relationship between the incidence of SAD and the status of AR during sepsis. Methods Cerebral blood flow velocity was measured using transcranial Doppler sonography and was correlated with the invasive arterial blood pressure curve to calculate the index of AR Mx (Mx>0.3 indicates impaired AR). Mx was m…
Influence of inadequate antimicrobial therapy on prognosis in elderly patients with severe urinary tract infections.
2013
Abstract Background Inadequate empirical antimicrobial therapy (IEAT) in intensive care unit (ICU) is associated with adverse outcomes. However, the influence of IEAT on prognosis for elderly patients with urinary tract infection (UTI) in non-ICU settings is unknown. Methods A retrospective cross-sectional study of elderly patients admitted to a non-ICU ward in a university hospital with a primary diagnosis of UTI over a 3-year period was done. Data relating to age, sex, background comorbidities, severity of infection, bacteremia, microorganisms isolated in urine, treatment given, length of stay and prognosis were obtained using chart review. Cases were segregated according to the adequacy …
Predicting patient outcome from acute renal failure comparing three general severity of illness scoring systems
2000
Predicting patient outcome from acute renal failure comparing three general severity of illness scoring systems.BackgroundA major problem of studies on acute renal failure (ARF) arises from a lack of prognostic tools able to express the medical complexity of the syndrome adequately and to predict patient outcome accurately. Our study was thus aimed at evaluating the predictive ability of three general prognostic models [version II of the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II), version II of the Simplified Acute Physiology Score (SAPS II), and version II of the Mortality Probability Model at 24 hours (MPM24 II)] in a prospective, single-center cohort of patients with ARF …
