Adhesion formation following gynecological surgery remains a challenge. The adoption of minimally invasive surgical approaches, such as conventional or robotic-assisted laparoscopy combined with meticulous microsurgical principles and the application of adhesion–reducing substances, is able to reduce the risk of de novo adhesion formation but do not eliminate it entirely. Myomectomy is the most adhesiogenic surgical procedure and postoperative adhesions can have a significant impact on the ability to conceive. Abstract Purpose To analyze the follow-up results of patients suffering from symptomatic early-stage endometriosis after a consistent laparoscopic peritoneal stripping of the altered peritoneum (peritoneal endometriosis and surrounding inflamed tissue) was performed. BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS Cardiorespiratory parameters were examined throughout diagnostic minilaparoscopy procedures. The same parameters were analyzed during colonoscopy, and the data were compared. PATIENTS AND METHODS Sixty-five consecutive unselected patients undergoing minilaparoscopy (group 1: ASA I, n = 34; group 2: ASA II/III, n = 31) and 61 consecutive unselected patients undergoing colonoscopy (group 3: ASA I, n = 31; group 4: ASA II/III, n = 30) were included. Internal Hernia Masquerading As Necrotizing Enterocolitis

In extremely preterm infants, acute abdominal emergencies are fortunately less common with improving care. Spontaneous intestinal perforation and necrotizing enterocolitis are conditions where emergency surgery is most often needed. Conservative medical management and placement of temporary drain are often used in the initial management. Internal hernia (IH) is an uncommon cause of bowel obstruction in neonates, is difficult to diagnose and unfortunately are found only at autopsy. The presentation in preterm infants, distinction between these conditions, and the need for early diagnosis of IH are discussed.

Growing evidence implicates the gut microbiome in cognition. Blastocystis is a common gut single-cell eukaryote parasite frequently detected in humans but its potential involvement in human pathophysiology has been poorly characterized. Here we describe how the presence of Blastocystis in the gut microbiome was associated with deficits in executive function and altered gut bacterial composition in a discovery (n = 114) and replication cohorts (n = 942). We also found that Blastocystis was linked to bacterial functions related to aromatic amino acids metabolism and folate-mediated pyrimidine and one-carbon metabolism. Per farlo, si seguiranno i percorsi biografici di quattro militanti di Lotta continua, il gruppo politico nel quale Impastato aveva militato fino al 1976, che si collocava nel vasto e complesso mondo della sinistra italiana esterna al Partito comunista.
