Abstract Background The aim of this study is to report on the impact of neuromodulation to the superior hypogastric plexus in patients with bladder atonia secondary to pelvic surgery. Methods In 4 consecutive patients with bladder atonia secondary to pelvic surgery, we performed a laparoscopic implantation of a neurostimulator—LION procedure—to the entire superior hypogastric plexus. 24-hour oesophageal pH monitoring with a dual pH probe is considered to be the most sensitive test for diagnosing GORD-related otolaryngological manifestations. In this study we evaluate an initial diagnostic approach with digital videofluorography associated to the water siphon test and primary "ex juvantibus" therapy with proton pump inhibitors for patients with supra-oesophageal symptoms of GORD. Mass appraisal, or the automatic valuation of a large number of real estate assets, has attracted the attention of many researchers, who have mainly approached this issue employing traditional econometric models such as Ordinary Least Squares (OLS). However, this method does not consider the hierarchical structure of the data and therefore assumes the unrealistic hypothesis of the independence of the individuals in the sample. Incisional hernias following median laparotomy have a high incidence and recurrence rate after repair, so that a better understanding of the linea alba biomechanics is desirable. The mechanical stress exerted on the linea alba in living humans is primarily generated by the musculature. In this human cadaver study, intraabdominal pressure was simulated by insertion of a balloon that was increasingly filled to maximal pressures of 200 mbar. The related forces acting transversely on the linea alba at maximum pressure were found to be between 41.6 and 52.2 N/cm (mean = 45.9 N/cm), which is in agreement with a recent modeling of the related forces.
