EXPERIENCE OF REMOVING BENIGN NEOPLASMS OF SKIN IN CERVICOFACIAL AREA USING THE METHOD OF PLASMA ABLATION

2017

Choosing appropriate methods for removal of benign skin lesions (BSL) in the cervicofacial area has always been an important and challenging issue. Removal of the BSL is indicated and performed for medical and aesthetic reasons. A method with less painful procedures, a short healing period, without noticeable long-lasting traces (such as scars, dyschromia) and, predictably, fewer repeat procedures is preferred. Objectives. Evaluation of the effectiveness, safety and convenience of BSL plasma ablation using Plexr® (GMV, Italy); Comparison of the reparative processes speed after the BSL removal in the cervicofacial area applying the Plexr® device with other instrumental methods (based on lite…

Infarct characterization using CT

2017

Myocardial infarction (MI) is a major cause of death and disability worldwide. The incidence is not expected to diminish, despite better prevention, diagnosis and treatment, because of the ageing population in industrialized countries and unhealthy lifestyles in developing countries. Nowadays it is highly requested an imaging tool able to evaluate MI and viability. Technology improvements determined an expansion of clinical indications from coronary plaque evaluation to functional applications (perfusion, ischemia and viability after MI) integrating additional phases and information in the mainstream examination. Cardiac computed tomography (CCT) and cardiac MR (CMR) employ different contra…

Peginterferon alfa-2b plus weight-based ribavirin for 24 weeks in patients with chronic hepatitis C virus genotype 1 with low viral load who achieve …

2011

Summary.  In chronic hepatitis C (CHC), treatment duration may be individualized according to time to first undetectable hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA, with patients who attain undetectable HCV RNA early in treatment being candidates for shorter regimens. The aim of this study was to determine the relapse rate in patients with CHC genotype (G) 1 infection and low baseline viral load who achieved undetectable HCV RNA by week 4 [rapid virologic response (RVR)] when treated for 24 weeks. This was an open-label, multicentre, noninterventional study. Adult patients with G1 CHC infection and baseline viral load <600,000 IU/mL who attained RVR were treated with peginterferon alfa-2b (1.5 μg/kg/week)…

Myogenic effects enhance norepinephrine constriction: Inhibition by nitric oxide and felodipine

1998

Myogenic effects enhance norepinephrine constriction: Inhibition by nitric oxide and felodipine. Myogenic, pressure-induced vasoconstriction may amplify the effects of circulating vasoconstrictors. Through intravital microscopy in cremaster arterioles (31 to 115 μm diameter), the relative contribution of myogenic responses (MR) to norepinephrine (NE)-induced constriction and the inhibitor potency of nitric oxide (NO) or a Ca2+ entry blocker (CEB), felodipine (F), were examined. In 24 anesthetized hamsters, a vessel occluder was placed around the aorta to control cremaster vessel inflow pressure (IP). NE infusion increased blood pressure (by 50 ± 2mm Hg) and induced significant constriction …

Fear Avoidance Beliefs and Risk of Long-Term Sickness Absence: Prospective Cohort Study among Workers with Musculoskeletal Pain

2018

Background and Objective. Musculoskeletal pain is common in the population. Negative beliefs about musculoskeletal pain and physical activity may lead to avoidance behavior resulting in absence from work. The present study investigates the influence of fear avoidance beliefs on long-term sickness absence. Methods. Workers of the general working population with musculoskeletal pain (low back, neck/shoulder, and/or arm/hand pain; n = 8319) from the Danish Work Environment Cohort Study were included. Long-term sickness absence data were obtained from the Danish Register for Evaluation and Marginalization (DREAM). Time-to-event analyses (cox regression) controlled for various confounders estima…

Brimonidine versus dapiprazole: Influence on pupil size at various illumination levels.

2005

To evaluate the influence of dapiprazole versus brimonidine on pupil size at various illumination levels.Department of Ophthalmology, Johannes Gutenberg-University, Mainz, Germany. In randomized prospective study, 19 healthy volunteers received 2 ophthalmic solutions, dapiprazole and brimonidine, 1 in each eye, for intraindividual comparison. Before and after application, pupil diameter was measured using an infrared binocular pupillometer at 3 illumination levels (0.03, 0.82, and 6.4 lux).Only slight pupil dilation was observed under scotopic conditions after application of both agents. After 20 minutes, the median reduction in pupil width was 1.4 mm for brimonidine and 0.9 mm for dapiprazo…

Optic neuropathy caused by type A botulinic toxin

2014

Purpose To report the development of an optical neuropathy after injection of type A botulinic toxin in a subject with blepharospasm. Methods Optical neuropathy was evaluated through a complete ophthalmologic examination consisting of bio-microscopy, tonometry and study of visual sharpness, colour test, visual field, OCT, fluorangiography and determination of VEPs. Results Intravenous therapy was begun with Metilprednisolone (20 mg/Kg/day) and Vitamin B6 associated with oral Citicoline, and there was a clear improvement down to normalization of the symptoms. After 6 months the Humphrey computerized visual field with central 30-2 program threshold test emphasised in ODx an upper half-field a…

2022

AbstractObjective:Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) screening stations set up by Iranian Red Crescent Society have been available for 17 d with the aim of identifying and treating people with coronavirus, reducing road trips, and sensitizing people to the problem. This study aims to investigate the challenges of the procedure. Methods:A qualitative study was used to find the challenges of the COVID-19 screening centers. Volunteers, branch managers, and headquarter managers of the Iranian Red Crescent Society participated in this study applying snowball sampling. Data were collected by means of in-depth semi-structured telephone interviews in April 2020 after completion of the fever screeni…
