A qualitative study of using movies as a means of escapism between Finns and immigrants in Finland

2017

Escapist use is often considered the main use for movies in Uses and Gratification research, however there is hardly a detailed account on such use, on what the movie audience escape into. The present study, which consists of a research article and a monograph, has tried to utilize a qualitative approach to provide a better understanding of escapist movie viewing. The other aspect of this research is trying to compare such use among Finnish nationals and immigrants in Finland to see how people from different backgrounds might vary in their escapist use of movies. Although no difference between Finns and immigrants living in Finland were seen in the data, due to limitation in its scale, this…

2020

To explore the conceptions of patients with persistent low back pain (LBP) of undergoing physiotherapy delivered in Finnish primary healthcare by physiotherapists who had participated in brief training in Cognitive Functional Therapy (CFT).As part of a feasibility implementation study exploring CFT in management of LBP in the Finnish primary healthcare system, we interviewed nine patients from four geographical areas in Finland after receiving care. The sense of self of experienced and non-experienced music therapists in musical improvisation : an interpretative phenomenological analysis

2014

Music therapists’ work is constantly researched and measured in order to find the best possible ways for conducting music therapy and treating people through music. In spite of this, music therapists themselves are rarely investigated. This research had as its aim to investigate music therapists. The actual investigation involved the sense of self of a music therapist in musical improvisation through semi-structured interviews analysed with Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis. Temporizing and Essentializing the Enemy : A Logological Reading of Finnish Lutheran Clerical War Rhetoric

2015

This article looks at the shift between logical and temporal vocabularies, called by Kenneth Burke the temporizing of essence. It combines “logology” with a rhetorical analysis of how it was applied in a concrete historical situation as a means of persuasion. First, I discuss Burke’s logology, which is the theory underlying the idea of temporized essence. Second, I turn to the notion in relation to its two main forms, origins and fruition; third, Finnish clerical rhetoric during the Continuation War 1941–44 will be analyzed using ideas drawn on logology. peerReviewed

Hedonistinen eskapismi ja kulttuurituotteiden kuluttaminen

2017

Tarkastelen hedonistista eskapism…

Psykoterapeutin henkilökohtaisten ominaisuuksien merkitys psykoterapiassa ja niiden vaikutus tuloksellisuuteen identiteettihaastattelun perusteella

2018

The purpose of my study was to use the Psychotherapist Identity Interview (PII) method, developed for this study and based on Erik H. Erikson's and Heinz Kohut's theories, to examine the significance of the personal characteristics of psychotherapists for psychotherapy, and their effect on treatment results. The study described the theoretical background and development of the interview method and the validation of the instrument. The study involved 68 contract therapists from the Helsinki Psychotherapy Study and 333 patients, of whom 65 therapists and 308 patients were included in the as-sessment of benefit from therapy. Videotaped, semistructured therapist interviews were assessed using 1…
