Senataxin defective in ataxia oculomotor apraxia type 2 is involved in the defence against oxidative DNA damage

Adefective response to DNA damage is observed in several human autosomal recessive ataxias with oculomotor apraxia, including ataxia-telangiectasia. We report that senataxin, defective in ataxia oculomotor apraxia (AOA) type 2, is a nuclear protein involved in the DNA damage response. AOA2 cells are sensitive to H2O2, camptothecin, and mitomycin C, but not to ionizing radiation, and sensitivity was rescued with full-length SETX cDNA. AOA2 cells exhibited constitutive oxidative DNA damage and enhanced chromosomal instability in response to H2O2. This article aims to describe and analyze the dilemmas facing teachers when fostering student motivation in project-based learning (PjBL). The authors developed a project in secondary education through an action research approach. The different action research cycles aimed to solve dilemmas throughout the project and interpret them in terms of student motivation through the self-determination theory. According to this theory, autonomy, relatedness and competence are three psychological needs that, if fulfilled in the classroom, will lead to greater intrinsic motivation. Ielejveida iegrauzumu ietekme uz pazemes ūdeņu apriti aktīvās ūdens apmaiņas zonā Latvijā

Maģistra darbā pētīta ielejveida iegrauzumu ietekme uz pazemes ūdeņu apriti aktīvās ūdens apmaiņas zonā Latvijas teritorijā, pielietojot hidroģeoloģisko modelēšanu. Pētījumā veikts pazemes ūdens plūsmas daļiņu aprēķins, izmantojot Python programmēšanas valodu un skriptus. Daļiņu ievades punkti gan laterālā, gan vertikālā virzienā tika definēti 3D hidroģeoloģiskā Baltijas Artēziskā baseina modeļa struktūrā. Rezultāti analizēti un attēloti ar datorprogrammu MS Excel un Qgis 2.14.2. Essen palīdzību. Secināts, ka ielejveida iegrauzumi rada ietekmi uz pazemes ūdens aizsargātību un daļiņu migrācijas ātrumu, laiku un veikto distanci, kas pētāmājā teritorijā būtiski atšķiras.

Bakalaura darbā tiek analizēta vācbaltiešu nacionālās komitejas ietekme Latvijas politikā laika posmā no 1918. – 1920. gadam. Šī pētījuma tēma ir aktuāla, jo tā savā izpētē ir bijusi ļoti politizēta. Vācbaltiešu nacionālā komiteja nebija viennozīmīga, kā arī tā piedzīvoja izmaiņas visā pētījumā aplūkotajā laika posmā un līdz ar to arī tās attiecības ar Latvijas valdību. Galvenais darba mērķis ir noskaidrot vācbaltiešu nacionālās komitejas un Latvijas valdības politisko mijiedarbību un nacionālās komitejas lomu Latvijas politikā 1918. – 1920.gadā. FASTA/Q data compressors for MapReduce-Hadoop genomics: space and time savings made easy

Abstract Background Storage of genomic data is a major cost for the Life Sciences, effectively addressed via specialized data compression methods. For the same reasons of abundance in data production, the use of Big Data technologies is seen as the future for genomic data storage and processing, with MapReduce-Hadoop as leaders. Somewhat surprisingly, none of the specialized FASTA/Q compressors is available within Hadoop. Indeed, their deployment there is not exactly immediate. Such a State of the Art is problematic. Stimulation of sewage sludge treatment by carbon sources and bioaugmentation with a sludge-derived microbial consortium

Abstract Recently, sewage sludge (SS) disposal has become one of the greatest global challenges. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of faba bean straw (Straw-B), wheat straw (Straw-W), and wood-chip pellets (WCP) amended to SS, as well as bioaugmentation (BA), on the physicochemical characteristics and structure of the microbial community of the treated SS. Sixteen days of incubation of SS-containing mixtures revealed the highest efficiency of Straw-W(BA) in terms of SS stabilisation, i.e., the highest and most stable respiration intensity, the lowest ammonia emission, and the highest stimulation effect on the cress seedling growth.
