Gaišo šūnu nieru karcinomas specifiski aptamēri

2015

Deconstructing Gendered and Colonial Violence in the Re-Imagined Nineteenth-Century: Domestic Traumas in Neo-Victorianism on Screen

2023

Touch, gender, and sexuality in Zola's La Curée

2022

This paper addresses the issues of gender and sexuality in Zola's La Curée from a sensory studies perspective, focusing specifically on touch. The novel's atmosphere of softness is rooted in the Second Empire's obsession for luxurious comfort as well as "mollitia", an ethical and aesthethical concept inherited from Latin culture.

Sex-specific genetic differences in endurance swimming of Trinidadian guppies.

2015

Abstract Swim performance is considered a main fitness‐determining trait in many aquatic organisms. Swimming is generally the only way most aquatic prey can escape predation, and swimming capacity is directly linked to food capture, habitat shifts, and reproduction. Therefore, evolutionary studies of swim performance are important to understand adaptation to aquatic environments. Most studies, however, concentrate on the importance of burst‐swim responses to predators, and little is known about its effect on endurance. Even fewer studies associate differences in organism swim capabilities to key gender‐specific responses. In this experiment, we assess the gender‐specific genetic basis of sw…

Chrzest Mieszka w 966 roku. Ewolucja naukowych teorii na podstawie odkryć archeologicznych

2017

Teorie zmie…

<title>Selective filters for improvement of color discrimination</title>

2003

Colored filters have been used as possible aids for perception in case of congenital color vision abnormalities. Higher stimulation for L cones in one eye (red filter) and for M cones (green) in other eye acts as a simple method to interfere in human color vision processing. Influence on subjective and objective vision performances as binocular functions, fusion, stereopsis and color vision has been tested. Special colored glasses have been created, taking into account each subjects refraction for distance and tested for the 5 months adaption time. No negative influence on binocular functions, no changes of heterophoria and lowering in fusion ability and stereopsis have been stated due to u…

Motion detection in goldfish investigated with the optomotor response is “color blind”

1996

AbstractThe action spectrum of the optomotor response in goldfish was measured to investigate which of the four cone types involved in color vision contributes to motion detection. In the dark-adapted state, the action spectrum showed a single maximum in the range of 500–520 nm, and resembled the rod spectral sensitivity function. Surprisingly, the action spectrum measured in the light-adapted state also revealed a single maximum only, located in the long wavelength range between 620 and 660 nm. A comparison with spectral sensitivity functions of the four cone types suggests that motion detection is dominated by the L-cone type. Using a two colored, “red-green” cylinder illuminated with two…

Psychological factors and defective colour vision

1995

In this study, involving students between 14 and 16 years old, the psychological dimensions of cognition and personality affected by red-green colour vision deficiencies were investigated. From the results of a factorial analysis it appears that the influence of colour vision abnormality on the psychological factors that we tested is always minor. Colour vision defect is correlated with such cognitive variables as spatial aptitude and visual difference perception, and with such personality variables as praxemia and submission. The weighting of the cognition and personality factors linked to colour vision abnormality, however, varies considerably and does not in any case contribute more than…

A new trifocal corneal inlay for presbyopia

2021

[EN] Corneal inlays (CIs) are the most recent surgical procedure for the treatment of presbyopia in patients who want complete independence from the use of glasses or contact lenses. Although refractive surgery in presbyopic patients is mostly performed in combination with cataract surgery, when the implantation of an intraocular lens is not necessary, the option of CIs has the advantage of being minimally invasive. Current designs of CIs are, either: small aperture devices, or refractive devices, however, both methods do not have good performance simultaneously at intermediate and near distances in eyes that are unable to accommodate. In the present study, we propose the first design of a …

The closure of Pak1-dependent macropinosomes requires the phosphorylation of CtBP1/BARS

2007

Membrane fission is an essential process in membrane trafficking and other cellular functions. While many fissioning and trafficking steps are mediated by the large GTPase dynamin, some fission events are dynamin independent and involve C-terminal-binding protein-1/brefeldinA-ADP ribosylated substrate (CtBP1/BARS). To gain an insight into the molecular mechanisms of CtBP1/BARS in fission, we have studied the role of this protein in macropinocytosis, a dynamin-independent endocytic pathway that can be synchronously activated by growth factors. Here, we show that upon activation of the epidermal growth factor receptor, CtBP1/BARS is (a) translocated to the macropinocytic cup and its surroundi…
