Daptomycin-induced eosinophilic pneumonia: Are there any risk factors?

Abstract Objectives Daptomycin is a widely used antibiotic. Rhabdomyolysis related to daptomycin is one of the adverse effects of treatment, justifying the need for regular monitoring of muscle enzymes throughout treatment. Daptomycin may also lead to eosinophilic pneumonia. However, risk factors for this adverse reaction have not been identified and do not permit targeting of at-risk populations who could benefit from appropriate monitoring. Predictors of individual adaptation to high-volume or high-intensity endurance training in recreational endurance runners

The aim of this study was to investigate factors that can predict individual adaptation to high-volume or high-intensity endurance training. After the first 8-week preparation period, 37 recreational endurance runners were matched into the high-volume training group (HVT) and high-intensity training group (HIT). During the next 8-week training period, HVT increased their running training volume and HIT increased training intensity. Endurance performance characteristics, heart rate variability (HRV), and serum hormone concentrations were measured before and after the training periods. Interleukin 6 (IL-6), oncostatin M (OSM) and leukaemia-inhibitory factor (LIF) share a common signal-transducing subunit in each of their receptors and thus mediate an overlapping spectrum of biological activities. Although all of these cytokines stimulate the production of α1-proteinase inhibitor (α1-PI) in hepatocyte-derived cells, only OSM is able to up-regulate levels of this inhibitor in epithelial cells originating from the lung. Phosphodiesterase10A: abundance and circadian regulation in the retina and photoreceptor of the rat.

Phosphodiesterase10A (PDE10A) is a dual specific cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase that is specifically enriched in striatum and which has gained attention as a therapeutic target for psychiatric disorders. The present study shows that PDE10A is also highly expressed in retinal neurons including photoreceptors. The levels of PDE10A transcript and protein display daily rhythms which could be seen in preparations of the whole retina. Corresponding changes in PDE10A mRNA were seen in photoreceptors isolated using laser microdissection. European vestibular experiments on the Spacelab-1 mission: 1. Overview.

During the flight of Spacelab-1 a series of vestibular experiments was performed on the crew by a group of European investigators. Control experiments were carried out on the same subjects pre- and postflight. The tests included caloric stimulation of the ears, threshold measurements of response to linear acceleration, motion sickness provocative stimuli, vestibulo-ocular reflexes during linear and angular stimulation, estimation of the subjective vertical (luminous line measurements) and static ocular counterrotation at various tilt angles. To determine the pattern of hemispheric lateralization during sound-change discrimination, we recorded the magnetic counterpart of the electrical mismatch negativity (MMNm) responses in professional musicians, musical participants (with high scores in the musicality tests but without professional training in music) and non-musicians. AbstractThe influence of vagal afferents on the EMG peristaltic pattern was studied in pigeon oesophagus.Bilateral vagotomy did not abolish the primary peristalsis, but induced significant modifications of the peristaltic pattern parameters.Vagal afferent stimulation induced an inhibitory effect consisting of a temporary break or definitive block of the EMG peristaltic activity already in progress.Vagal afferent stimulation also induced a reduction of the spontaneous EMG activity and this effect was abolished either by glossopharyngeal bilateral section or ganglionic block.Likewise vagal afferent stimulation, the crop distension caused inhibitory effects on EMG peristaltic pattern.
