Evolution of application-specific cache mappings
2020
Reconfigurable caches offer an intriguing opportunity to tailor cache behavior to applications for better run-times and energy consumptions. While one may adapt structural cache parameters such as cache and block sizes, we adapt the memory-address-to-cache-index mapping function to the needs of an application. Using a LEON3 embedded multi-core processor with reconfigurable cache mappings, a metaheuristic search procedure, and MiBench applications, we show in this work how to accurately compare non-deterministic performances of applications and how to use this information to implement an optimization procedure that evolves application-specific cache mappings for the LEON3 multi-core processo…
Multi-application Based Fault-Tolerant Network-on-Chip Design for Mesh Topology Using Reconfigurable Architecture
2019
In this paper, we propose a two-step fault-tolerant approach to address the faults occurred in cores. In the first stage, a Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) based approach has been proposed for the fault-tolerant mapping of multiple applications on to the mesh based reconfigurable architecture by introducing spare cores and a heuristic has been proposed for the reconfiguration in the second stage. The proposed approach has been experimented by taking several benchmark applications into consideration. Communication cost comparisons have been carried out by taking the failed cores as user input and the experimental results show that our approach could get improvements in terms of communicati…
Luminescence of F2 and F3 + centres in LiF crystals irradiated with 12 MeV 12C ions
2018
Dependences of the nanohardness and photoluminescence of F 2 and F 3 + centers on the depth in LiF crystals irradiated with 12 MeV 12 C ions to fluences 10 10 -10 15 ions/cm 2 were studied using laser scanning confocal microscopy, luminescent spectroscopy, and the nanoindentation method. The nanohardness measurements showed a significant hardening effect at the end of the ion run with the dominant contribution of defects formed by the mechanism of elastic collisions. The observed attenuation of the luminescence intensity at high fluences is associated with the intense nucleation of dislocations as traps for aggregate color centers.
C-switches: Increasing switch radix with current integration scale
2011
In large switch-based interconnection networks, increasing the switch radix results in a decrease in the total number of network components, and consequently the overall cost of the network can be significantly reduced. Moreover, high-radix switches are an attractive option to improve the network performance in terms of latency, since hop count is also reduced. However, there are some problems related to the integration scale to design such single-chip switches. In this paper we discuss key issues and evaluate an interesting alternative for building high-radix switches going beyond the integration scale bounds. The idea basically consists in combining several current smaller single-chip swi…

Structural, optical, and luminescence properties of ZnO:Ga optical scintillation ceramic
2018
This paper discusses the characteristics of ZnO and ZnO:Ga ceramics fabricated by uniaxial hot pressing. The short-wavelength transmission limit of zinc oxide ceramics is in the 370-nm region; the long-wavelength limit is determined by the free-charge-carrier concentration and lies in the interval from 5 to 9 μm. The total transmittance of such ceramics in the visible and near-IR regions is about 70% when the sample is 0.5 mm thick. The luminescence spectrum is represented by a broad emission band with maximum at 580 nm, having a defect nature. The introduction of 0.03–0.1 mass % gallium into the zinc oxide structure inhibits grain growth and increases the free-charge-carrier concentration …

Magnetization reversal of the domain structure in the anti-perovskite nitride Co3FeN investigated by high-resolution X-ray microscopy
2016
We performed X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) photoemission electron microscopy imaging to reveal the magnetic domain structure of anti-perovskite nitride Co3FeN exhibiting a negative spin polarization. In square and disc patterns, we systematically and quantitatively determined the statistics of the stable states as a function of geometry. By direct imaging during the application of a magnetic field, we revealed the magnetic reversal process in a spatially resolved manner. We compared the hysteresis on the continuous area and the square patterns from the magnetic field-dependent XMCD ratio, which can be explained as resulting from the effect of the shape anisotropy, present in nano…
Isothermal relaxation of discommensurations in K2ZnCl4
1994
At the incommensurate-ferroelectric transition temperature T c of K 2 ZnCl 4 , the dielectric susceptibility contains an anomalous contribution both above and below T c . Previous quasi-static dielectric measurements and hysteresis loops demonstrated that this anomalous part arises from the peculiar dynamics of discommensurations. We have used isothermal dielectric measurements to get some insight into the long time dynamics of these discommensurations. We have found that the characteristic relaxation times τ are of the order of 10 4 s in the incommensurate and in the ferroelectric phase. Even more unusual is a non-monotonous relaxation which is observed in a restricted temperature range ab…
