Ergodicity breaking in a mean field Potts glass: A Monte Carlo investigation

We use Monte Carlo simulations, single spin-flip as well as parallel tempering techniques to investigate the 10-state fully connected Potts glass for system sizes of up to N = 2560. We find that the α-relaxation shows a strong dependence on N and that for the system sizes considered the system remains ergodic even at temperatures below T D , the dynamical critical temperature for this model. However, if one uses the data for the finite size systems, such as the relaxation times or the time dependence of the spin autocorrelation function, and extrapolates them to the thermodynamic limit, one finds that they are indeed compatible with the results for N = ∞ (which are known from analytical cal…

This essay takes a close look at specially selected features of the Göttingen mathematical culture during the period 1895–1920. Drawing heavily on personal accounts and archival resources, it describes the changing roles played by Felix Klein and David Hilbert, as Göttingen's two senior mathematicians, within a fast-growing community that attracted an impressive number of young talents. Within the course of these twenty-five years Göttingen exerted a profound impact on mathematics and physics throughout the world. Multicanonical Simulations of the Tails of the Order-Parameter Distribution of the Two-Dimensional Ising Model

We report multicanonical Monte Carlo simulations of the tails of the order-parameter distribution of the two-dimensional Ising model for fixed boundary conditions. Clear numerical evidence for "fat" stretched exponential tails is found below the critical temperature, indicating the possible presence of fat tails at the critical temperature.

In mobile-to-mobile (M2M) communication systems, both the transmitter and the receiver are moving with a certain velocity, which is usually assumed to be constant over time. However, in realistic propagation scenarios, the velocity of the mobile stations (MSs) is subject to changes resulting in a non-stationary fading process. Abstract Here we examine Dyakonov-like surface waves (DSWs) in the THz regime traveling along the plane interface between a non-conducting isotropic medium and a low-loss graphene-based uniaxial metamaterial with the optic axis (OA) oriented along with the interface. New insights concerning the propagation characteristics of DSWs are given by analyzing the dispersion relation in such configuration, that is evaluated using the effective medium theory. The topic of this thesis is the Marca dynasty, a piedmontese family from the Valsesia area, specialized in the stucco work. In the early eighteenth century, some of its members migrated to the Franche-Comté in France, in search of work, the others remaining in Piedmont. Their realizations can be studied in religious places and private houses in Italy, in Franche-Comté and Burgundy. These works (altars, pulpits, statues and bas-reliefs in stucco) were created between the late seventeenth century and the early nineteenth century.
