AbstractPolicy for young children in South Africa is now receiving high-level government support through the ANC’s renewed commitment to redress poverty and inequity and creating ‘a better life for all’ as promised before the 1994 election. In this article, I explore the power relations, knowledge hierarchies and discourses of childhood, family and society in National Curriculum Framework (NCF) as it relates to children’s everyday contexts. Historically, bureaucrats regard uncertainty as the enemy and look for tested solutions (Stevens, 2011). Positioning children with special educational needs in early childhood education and care documents

The article critically discusses the practice of describing children’s special educational needs (SEN) in early childhood education and care (ECEC) pedagogical documents. Documentation is understood as a form of governance. In current practice, documentation is extensively used in educational institutions. Even when the focus of documentation should be pedagogical, the descriptions of children’s SEN commonly describe a child’s individual deficits as a source of educational problems. Tutkielman tarkoituksena oli tarkastella kuudesluokkalaisten kielikylpyoppilaiden ruotsin kieliopin taitoja Manfred Pienemannin prosessoitavuusteorian valossa. Tärkein tutkimuskysymys oli, mille teorian viidestä tasosta oppilaat sijoittuvat. Tutkimuksen materiaalina oli 12 19 oppilaan kirjoittamaa kirjoitelmaa, eli osa kirjoitelmista oli kirjoitettu ryhmässä. Tutkimus oli kvalitatiivinen ja menetelmänä käytettiin teorialähtöistä sisällönanalyysiä. Tulokset osoittivat, että oppilaat sijoittuivat prosessoitavuusteorian neljännelle ja viidennelle tasolle. Kokopäiväpedagogiikka on noussut keskeiseksi toimintatavaksi suomalaisissa päiväkodeissa. Se on myös useissa paikallisissa varhaiskasvatussuunnitelmissa toiminnan lähtökohtana, vaikka käsitteen tieteellinen määrittely on kesken ja käytännön tulkinnat vaihtelevat. Ehkä juuri näiden syiden vuoksi aihe herättää paljon keskustelua ja kiinnostusta. Kokopäiväpedagogiikka onkin vielä toistaiseksi ennen kaikkea varhaiskasvatuksen arkisanastoa. "You've got the color, but you dont't have the shades" : primary education CLIL teachers' identity negotiation within the Finnish context

This dissertation explores how professional identity is experienced by teachers in Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) instruction. In particular, it addresses professional identity in relation to two immediate contexts of teacher activity, i.e. that of the classroom and that of the collegial community. In addition to exploring how these two sides of the professional self give rise to a broader understanding of professional identity, this dissertation also explores aspects of professional agency and the negotiation of emotions in their work.
