The methane Raman spectrum from 1200 to 5500 cm(-1): A first step toward temperature diagnostic using methane as a probe molecule in combustion syste…
2005
International audience; We present a study of the spontaneous Raman spectra of (CH4)-C-12 from 1200 to 5500 cm(-1) at various temperatures. This study is of interest from a fundamental as well as from a practical point of view with regards to the temperature diagnostic in hydrocarbon combustion. The present investigation shows that the spontaneous (CH4)-C-12 Raman spectra are very sensitive to temperature and that the complexity of methane spectra is not an obstacle to use methane as a probe molecule in laser-diagnostic techniques. Our study consists in determining the polarisability parameters of methane (CH4)-C-12, unknown at the present time, from spontaneous Raman spectra recorded at pr…
Thermogalvanic corrosion of Alloy 31 in different heavy brine LiBr solutions
2012
Thermogalvanic corrosion generated between two electrodes of Alloy 31, a highly-alloyed austenitic stainless steel (UNS N08031), has been investigated imposing different temperature gradients in three deaerated LiBr solutions, under open circuit conditions by using a zero-resistance ammeter (ZRA). Besides EIS spectra were acquired in order to explain the obtained results. On the whole, cold Alloy 31 electrodes were anodic to hot Alloy 31 electrodes, since an increase in temperature favoured the cathodic behaviour of the hot electrode. Thermogalvanic corrosion of Alloy 31 in the LiBr solutions studied was not severe, although it negatively affects the corrosion resistance of the cold anode. …
Soil Solarization as an Alternative to Methyl Bromide Fumigation for Annual Strawberry Production in a Mediterranean Area
2008
This study compares the effects of soil solarization and methyl bromide fumigation on the growth and yield of strawberry plants (Fragaria xananassa Duch.) cultivated under plastic tunnel conditions. The study was conducted in a Mediterranean coastal area, in four consecutive annual production cycles in a field with no history of methyl bromide fumigation and 2-year history of strawberry production. In all 4 years, solarization was conducted for 7- to 9-week intervals from late June to early September. Cultivar Tudla frigo-plants were planted through mulch in the first week of September of each year. Average daily soil temperatures in solarized plots measured at 15 cm depth were 6.0, 8.1, 7.…
Rehabilitation of Mediterranean anthropogenic soils using symbiotic wild legume shrubs: Plant establishment and impact on the soil bacterial communit…
2010
Abstract Susceptibility to desertification in southern Europe is increasing and rehabilitation of desertification-threatened Mediterranean soils is a challenge due to the inhospitality of the environment. In particular, recovery of anthropogenic soils (mainly human-derived artefacts from housing construction and other inert materials or topsoil of terminal phase municipal landfills) cannot rely on spontaneous processes and low-cost/low-impact strategies are needed to prevent desertification. Mediterranean wild legume shrubs have great potential for soil recovery and conservation against desertification, thanks to drought resistance, and their symbiosis with N2-fixing rhizobia and arbuscular…

Biological diversity of the microbial film associated to the central-Mediterranean Dendropoma cristatum (Biondi, 1859) reefs.
2017
Microbial films may provide physical and bio-chemical cues which positively affect the settlement dynamic of a variety of benthic marine organisms, driving the development of ecosystems. Also for the Mediterranean intertidal reef-builder Dendropoma cristatum (Biondi, 1859), biofilm maturity has been found to enhance the settlement pattern. However, the microbial diversity associated with these bioconstructions has never been described. This study investigates the D. cristatum reef bacterial assemblage composition and temporal evolution in two localities in the northwest of Sicily. Biological diversity of the reef-associated biofilm and of 3 progressively older biofims obtained on artificial…
On the performance of a linearized dual parallel Mach Zehnder electro-optic modulator
2014
The performance of a dual parallel differential Mach-Zehnder modulator broadband linearization architecture is analysed. This study provides experimental and analytical results showing an enhancement up to 20 dB in the 3rd-order intermodulation distortion factor at 5 GHz using RF and optical asymmetrical feeding factors.
About the role of hamiltonian singularities in controlled systems : applications in quantum mechanics and nonlinear optics
2012
This thesis has two goals: the first one is to improve the control techniques in quantum mechanics, and more specifically in NMR, by using the tools of geometric optimal control. The second one is the study of the influence of Hamiltonian singularities in controlled systems. The chapter about optimal control study three classical problems of NMR : the inversion problem, the influence of the radiation damping term, and the steady state technique. Then, we apply the geometric optimal control to the problem of the population transfert in a three levels quantum system to recover the STIRAP scheme. The two next chapters study Hamiltonian singularities. We show that they allow to control the polar…
