Verità instabili. L'eikos in Aristotele
2012
This paper deals with the Aristotelian concept of eikos, traditionally translated as “probability” or “likelihood", with the aim of showing the complexity and the theoretical worth of this notion. Eikos has already been an important concept in fields such as historiography and rhetoric and it plays a crucial role in Aristotelian thought, as well. According to Aristotle, eikos does not oppose itself to truth nor is it a second-level knowledge. Instead, it is a heuristic device that is extremely useful in conditions of uncertainty. Aristotle’s task was to offer a personal elaboration of a concept that already had a rich background and was suited to become a means for reflection on a crucial p…

Obiecta, opposita, antikeimena nel De anima di Aristotele
2012
The word antikéimena is often translated by modern editors of De anima with the expression "correlative objects", rather than as "opposites". The aim of this paper is to present some arguments against this translation, insomuch as it disregards the link established with the concept of opposition between De anima and the Aristotelian theory of motion and change.

Eettisen arvotietoisuutemme kehittymisestä

EETTISEN ARVOTIETOISUUTEMME KEHITTYMISESTÄ Samppa Koivula Filosofia/maisteriohjelma Pro gradu-tutkielma Yhteiskuntatieteiden ja filosofian laitos Jyväskylän yliopisto Ohjaaja: Jussi Kotkavirta Lokakuu 2010 124 sivua Tämän tutkielman tavoitteena on ollut kuvata ihmisen eettisen arvotietoisuuden kehittymisen prosessia yksilön näkökulmasta. Tähän pääviitekehykseen liittyen, yksilön näkökulman vahvistamiseksi, on peilattu André Comte-Sponvillen teoriaa rakkauden kolmestatasosta. Kontrastin luomiseksi on myös tarkasteltu muutamia sellaisia filosofeja (Aristoteles,Nietzsche) ja aatesuuntia (Freud…
Salvatore Di Piazza. 2011. Congetture e approssimazioni. Forme del sapere in Aristotele (Milano-Udine : Mimesis)
2013

Elementi di psicologia empirica in Aristotele e Pomponazzi
2017
Pietro Pomponazzi is an author who never gained prominence in the history of philosophical thought. He lived between the late 15th and early 16th centuries, and is one of the most significant figures in the Italian philosophy of the Renaissance. His main work De immortalitate animae, published in 1516, witnesses the “rebirth” of human sciences in the wake of the Aristotelian tradition established at the University of Padua. Thanks also to his work, while Florence was the seat of Platonism, Padua was the seat of Aristotelianism, confirming the rediscovery of a classical culture that was the foundation of modern culture. In the case of Pomponazzi, it should be emphasized that the return to Ar…
