Adduct formed by chromium trioxide and zwitterionic quinolinic acid

2010

Abstract Chromium trioxide forms an adduct with zwitterionic quinolinic acid. The structure of the product was found to be (quinolinium-3-carboxylato-O)trioxidochromium(VI), determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction methods. To evaluate the bonding properties of the compound, its structure was optimized at the B3LYP/6-311G* level of theory. The electronic characteristics were investigated by topological methods applied to the total charge density in various model compounds including the title compound, title compound with a HF molecule presenting a hydrogen bonding and anionic moiety. Calculated aromaticity indices indicate that the quinolinic rings tend to conserve their degree of aro…

Corrigendum: An Unusually Small Singlet-Triplet Gap in a Quinoidal 1,6-Methano[10]annulene Resulting from Baird's 4n π-Electron Triplet Stabilization.

2016

Within the continuum of π-extended quinoidal electronic structures exist molecules that by design can support open-shell diradical structures. The prevailing molecular design criteria for such structures involve proaromatic nature that evolves aromaticity in open-shell diradical resonance structures. A new diradical species built upon a quinoidal methano[10]annulene unit is synthesized and spectroscopically evaluated. The requisite intersystem crossing in the open-shell structure is accompanied by structural reorganization from a contorted Mobius aromatic-like shape in S0 to a more planar shape in the Huckel aromatic-like T1. This stability was attributed to Baird’s Rule which dictates the …

Fluorinated Heterocyclic Compounds. An Effective Strategy for the Synthesis of Fluorinated Z-Oximes of 3-Perfluoroalkyl-6-phenyl-2H-1,2,4-triazin- 5-…

2005

The reaction of 3-benzoyl-5-perfluoroalkyl-1,2,4-oxadiazoles with hydrazine has been investigated, evidencing the possibility of competitive reaction paths. Nucleophilic addition of the hydrazine to the electrophilic C(5) of the 1,2,4-oxadiazole ring, followed by ring opening and ring closure with enlargement, leads with high yield and in very mild experimental conditions to the formation of Z-oximes of 3-perfluoroalkyl-6-phenyl-2H-1,2,4-triazin-5-ones (11a-c) as major products of the reaction. In turn, the hydrazine can attack the electrophilic carbonyl carbon giving 4-perfluoroacylamino-5-phenyl-2H-1,2,3-triazoles (13a-c) through the well-known Boulton-Katritzky rearrangement of the inter…

On the Nucleophilic Reactivity of 4,6-Dichloro-5-nitrobenzofuroxan with Some Aliphatic and Aromatic Amines: Selective nucleophilic substitution

2020

The reaction rates for the nucleophilic aromatic substitution of 4,6-dichloro-5-nitrobenzofuroxan 1 with eight aliphatic amines (characterized by very different basicities/ nucleophilicities) and three anilines have been measured in both methanol and toluene. The obtained rates have been related to the basicity (pKaH in water and Kb in benzene) or nucleophilicity (N Mayr constants) of the tested amines. The whole of the obtained kinetic data has furnished useful information on the high nucleophilic reactivity of benzofuroxan derivatives, which has been related essentially to two factors: the high electron-drawing ability/power of the condensed furoxan ring and the low aromatic character of …

Mono-, bi- and polynuclear complexes of diphenylmethane with Cr, Co and Ru. Synthesis and investigation by 1H, 13C and 17O NMR

1995

Abstract Complexes of diphenylmethane (Ph 2 CH 2 ): Ph 2 CH 2 Cr(CO) 3 ( 1 ), Ph 2 CH 2 [Cr(CO) 3 ] 2 ( 2 ), Ph 2 CH 2 Co 4 (CO) 9 ( 3 ), Ph 2 CH 2 [Co 4 (CO) 9 ] 2 ( 4 ), Ph 2 CH 2 Cr(CO) 3 Co 4 (CO) 9 ( 5 ) and Ph 2 CH 2 Ru 6 C(CO) 14 ( 6 ) have been prepared and characterized by 1 H and 13 C-and 17 O-NMR spectroscopy. Strong shielding effects are caused by the metal valence electrons on the 1 H- and 13 C-NMR chemical shifts of aromatic protons and carbons in π-coordinated ring(s) diphenylmethane. Generally, the order of these shielding effects on the nuclei of the aromatic rings in 1 H-NMR was Co 4 (CO) 9 6 C(CO) 14 3 and in 13 C-NMR Co 4 (CO) 9 3 6 C(CO) 14 . In addition, aromatic solve…

Cubic aromaticity in ligand-stabilized doped Au superatoms

2021

The magnetic response of valence electrons in doped gold-based [M@Au8L8]q superatoms (M = Pd, Pt, Ag, Au, Cd, Hg, Ir, and Rh; L = PPh3; and q = 0, +1, +2) is studied by calculating the gauge including magnetically induced currents (GIMIC) in the framework of the auxiliary density functional theory. The studied systems include 24 different combinations of the dopant, total cluster charge, and cluster structure (cubic-like or oblate). The magnetically induced currents (both diatropic and paratropic) are shown to be sensitive to the atomic structure of clusters, the number of superatomic electrons, and the chemical nature of the dopant metal. Among the cubic-like structures, the strongest arom…

On-Surface Synthesis of Antiaromatic and Open-Shell Indeno[2,1- b ]fluorene Polymers and Their Lateral Fusion into Porous Ribbons

2019

Polycyclic hydrocarbons have received great attention due to their potential role in organic electronics and, for open-shell systems with unpaired electron densities, in spintronics and da-ta storage. However, the intrinsic instability of polyradical hydrocarbons severely limits de-tailed investigations of their electronic structure. Here, we report the on-surface synthesis of conjugated polymers consisting of indeno[2,1-b]fluorene units, which are antiaromatic and open-shell biradicaloids. The observed reaction products, which also include a non-benzenoid porous ribbon arising from lateral fusion of unprotected indeno[2,1-b]fluorene chains, have been characterized via low temperature scann…

Torsional Bias as a Strategy To Tune Singlet–Triplet Gaps in Organic Diradicals

2018

Quinoidal compounds with proaromatic structures possess differing degrees of diradical character, where the open-shell diradical resonance form has restored aromaticity throughout the compound. Methods to tune the diradical character of these compounds have traditionally focused on altering the length and the molecular composition of the π-conjugated backbones. However, other molecular design strategies to tune the singlet–triplet gap of π-conjugated quinoidal molecules have not been extensively explored. We previously reported a strikingly small energy gap between the quinoidal and diradical states of a quinoidal small molecule containing methano[10]annulene (TMTQ) that was dictated in lar…

Dihydrogen Activation by Antiaromatic Pentaarylboroles

2010

Facile metal-free splitting of molecular hydrogen (H(2)) is crucial for the utilization of H(2) without the need for toxic transition-metal-based catalysts. Frustrated Lewis pairs (FLPs) are a new class of hydrogen activators wherein interactions with both a Lewis acid and a Lewis base heterolytically disrupt the hydrogen-hydrogen bond. Here we describe the activation of hydrogen exclusively by a boron-based Lewis acid, perfluoropentaphenylborole. This antiaromatic compound reacts extremely rapidly with H(2) in both solution and the solid state to yield boracyclopent-3-ene products resulting from addition of hydrogen atoms to the carbons alpha to boron in the starting borole. The disruption…

Factors Governing the Chemical Stability and NMR Parameters of Uracil Tautomers and Its 5-Halogen Derivatives

2020

We report on the density functional theory (DFT) modelling of structural, energetic and NMR parameters of uracil and its derivatives (5-halogenouracil (5XU), X = F, Cl, Br and I) in vacuum and in water using the polarizable continuum model (PCM) and the solvent model density (SMD) approach. On the basis of the obtained results, we conclude that the intramolecular electrostatic interactions are the main factors governing the stability of the six tautomeric forms of uracil and 5XU. Two indices of aromaticity, the harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA), satisfying the geometric criterion, and the nuclear independent chemical shift (NICS), were applied to evaluate the aromaticity of ur…
