Bone Fusion in Normal and Pathological Development is Constrained by the Network Architecture of the Human Skull
2016
The premature fusion of cranial bones, craniosynostosis, affects the correct development of the skull producing morphological malformations in newborns. To assess the susceptibility of each craniofacial articulation to close prematurely, we used a network model of the skull to quantify the link reliability (an index based on stochastic block modeling and Bayesian inference) of each articulation. We show that, of the 93 human skull articulations at birth, the few articulations that are associated with nonsyndromic craniosynostosis conditions have statistically significant lower reliability scores than the others. In a similar way, articulations that close during the normal postnatal developm…
Benedetto Croce e Marx
2017
It may be of some interest that Benedetto Croce, the «philosopher of the spirit», known as a determined Hegelian, found his way to Hegel via Marx. There he found a concrete and vivid Hegelianism, diVering from tho…
2020
The present paper addresses the question of the role Executive Education performs in the strengthening and reproduction of neoliberal ideology. It aims to critically reflect on the way selected contents and teaching activities operate jointly enabling or inhibiting certain perspectives regarding work in organizations. Two Leadership training programs are analyzed in this article, currently delivered by the two most prestigious business schools in Argentina: IAE Business School, and Torcuato Di Tella Business School. I begin with a general description of each one and proceed analyzing their educational proposals. Finally, the critical review reveals their consistency with a set of social rep…
Mens sana in corpore exhausto.
2020
In recent years, emotional education has become a central element in a series of guidelines on a global scale that have been translated into various state initiatives aimed at education. Thus, Mens sana in corpore exhausto proposes to demonstrate the tension that is expressed between the growing series of discourses on emotional education and the school climate and the exhaustive bodies of teachers and directors of public secondary schools in the Metropolitan Region of Buenos Aires (RMBA). By way of hypothesis, these policies are considered to work on the bodies of teachers and directors, encouraging them to continue and not stop under the logic of management and self-management that throw …
Education for democratic citizenship in a digital culture
2011
International Standing Conference for the History of Education (ISCHE) Networks, internationalisation, and scientific communication
2022
The objective of this study is to map the international networks of research, circulation, and scientific communication in the history of education, at a global level. In order to do so, we analyse the activity of the International Standing Conference for the History of Education (ISCHE). The focus is placed on the following: the make-up and organisation of the community of education historians; the arenas set up to encourage collaboration, debate and consensus in research in the field; collaboration among researchers, and the influence of transnational perspectives; avenues of research and areas of focus; and the communication channels by which ideas and findings are published and exchange…
2016
This paper aims to study the platonic «communism» as an utopian project which was never carried out. We survey the misnamed platonic communism and its forced relationship, with modern communism, which we analyze in depth. Besides that, by reviewing modern authors, we attempt to compare platonic communism with Marxism, searching for its beginning and causes, as well as its socio-politic aspects. Besides, we bear in mind the historical context where it appeared: Athens in the 5th century BC.
East Asia in the Global Economy: Theoretical and Empirical Questions for Marxism
2019
As Marxism and socialism pass through watershed years it is important to reflect on the abiding questions of Marxist theory and empirical analysis. This article takes up this task in the context of East Asia under the impetus of globalisation and neo-liberalism, introducing a collection of five articles collected in the special issue. The article shows that questions Marx posed about the global economy more than a century ago remain prescient and continue to animate cutting-edge research, as shown in the articles in this special issue.
“I be da reel gansta”—A Finnish footballer’s Twitter writing and metapragmatic evaluations of authenticity
2015
This article explores the ways in which ‘gangsta’ English features are deployed, evaluated and adopted in two types of social media, the web forum and Twitter, within the domains of hip hop culture and football (soccer) culture, from the dual perspective of authenticity and normativity. Empirically, we aim to break new ground by investigating the intricate interconnections between two social media formats and combining two highly popular but previously seldom connected cultural forms—football and hip hop. Our theoretical aim is to contribute to the current debate on authenticity, normativity, popular culture and social media, and the complex ways in which they are connected. We focus, first…
Molecular Identification of Yeasts Associated with Traditional Egyptian Dairy Products
2009
This study aimed to examine the diversity and ecology of yeasts associated with traditional Egyptian dairy products employing molecular techniques in yeast identification. A total of 120 samples of fresh and stored Domiati cheese, kariesh cheese, and "Matared" cream were collected from local markets and examined. Forty yeast isolates were cultured from these samples and identified using the restriction-fragment length polymorphism (RFLPs) of 5.8S-ITS rDNA region and sequencing of the domains D1 and D2 of the 26S rRNA gene. Yeasts were identified as Issatchenkia orientalis (13 isolates), Candida albicans (4 isolates), Clavispora lusitaniae (Candida lusitaniae) (9 isolates), Kodamaea ohmeri (…
