Synchronous unilateral parotid neoplasms. : a case report

2009

The parotid gland is the most usual location of benign neoplasms affecting major salivary glands and quite often the recurrence of these tumours is noticed, specially in the case of pleomorphic adenoma. The occurrence of multiple tumours in the parotid glands is rare and the majority of these are multifocal Warthin`s tumors (papillary cystadenoma lymphomatosum). The simultaneous development of tumours with different histological types is unusual and when it occurs, the most common combination is a pleomorphic adenoma and a Warthin`s tumor. There are many articles about Multiple Parotid Tumors (MPT) but only a few of them are focused on unilateral synchronous benings tumors, being pleomorphi…

Infección periprotésica aguda de rodilla por fusobacterium nucleatum. Revisión de la literatura a propósito de un caso.

2020

Fusobacterium Nucleatum is an anaerobic commensal microorganism present in the oral cavity and some mucous membranes with great capacity to form biofilm. In the literature, only one case of acute periprosthetic infection of the knee by Fusobacterium Nucleatum has been reported, providing the second case. A 72-year-old man presented with an acute periprosthetic infection by fusobacterium nucleatum after a second time of a prosthetic knee replacement. Debridement and spacer changes were performed up to 4 times, associating parenteral antibiotic treatment. After ensuring the absence of infection, a modular revision knee prosthesis with stems was placed, with a satisfactory evolution after two …

The meridian incision : a technical modification in the conservative surgery of the impacted maxillary canine

2008

We describe a technical modification of the apical repositioning flap in the conservative surgical treatment of the impacted canine in buccal position. This amendment improves the tooth?s eventual visualization, thus permitting a better evolutive follow-up of its eruption process and, most importantly, providing the tooth with buccal attached gingiva that will accompany it in its downward progression, procuring a cervical contour without retraction, a satisfactory esthetic outcome and a physiologically correct periodontal ridge. The traditional apical repositioning flap also bestows the canine with attached gingiva; however, since the flap is sutured apically and its width is significantly …

Dentinal sensitivity : concept and methodology for its objective evaluation

2008

Dentinal sensitivity is a clinical condition of some importance, particularly in periodontal patients. Symptoms appear on applying a triggering stimulus to the exposed dentine - the particularity being that the pain is similar to that of other dental disorders of different etiology and treatment. Hence the importance of a correct differential diagnosis. The main problem not only in clinical practice when treating the disorder, but also in designing studies for the objective evaluation of dentinal sensitivity, is the difficulty of standardizing, evaluating and interpreting the clinical condition in its different degrees. Thus, consensus in designing and evaluating studies of dentinal sensiti…

Dens in dente, also known as dens invaginatus and dilated compound odontoma, is a malformation that can occur on primary, permanent, or supernumerary teeth that is characterized by a deep invagination of the surface of a crown or root covered with enamel. Trismus as the first manifestation of cholangiocarcinoma

2008

The initial presentation of a cholangiocarcinoma (CC) as trismus due to metastasis to the parotid gland is extremely rare and no previous reports have been found in the literature. A 29-year-old woman presented trismus that initiated 2 months before admission, just after superior left third molar extraction. Physical examination revealed severe trismus and a mass in the parotid gland. Computed tomography (CT) showed a heterogeneous mass in the left parotid gland. The next day she presented jaundice, bilirubinuria, and fever, followed by massive bleeding, intravascular disseminated coagulation, and respiratory insufficiency. Two days later she died. At autopsy, the parotid tumor was identifi…
