The performance of a membrane bioreactor (MBR) system and the extension and mechanisms that lead to the formation of the fouling may differ in relation to the start-up. As a consequence, the MBR start-up may constitute a crucial point that drastically influence the MBR performance in its lifespan. Indeed, the start-up influences the mechanisms of membrane fouling whose effects, in the case of irreversible cake deposition, can be modified only by a chemical membrane washing. The paper presents the setting up of a mathematical model for membrane bioreactor able to simulate physical-biological wastewater organic removal. The model is basically divided into two sub-models: the first sub-model is basically devoted for the simulation of the biological features and the second one for the physical processes. Double copies of blaKPC-3::Tn4401a on an IncX3 plasmid in Klebsiella pneumoniae successful clone ST512 from Italy

ABSTRACT A carbapenem-resistant sequence type 512 (ST512) Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase 3 (KPC-3)-producing K. pneumoniae strain showing a novel variant plasmid content was isolated in Palermo, Italy, in 2014. ST512 is a worldwide successful clone associated with the spread of bla KPC genes located on the IncFIIk pKpQIL plasmid. In our ST512 strain, the bla KPC-3 gene was unusually located on an IncX3 plasmid, whose complete sequence was determined. Two copies of bla KPC-3 ::Tn 4401a caused by intramolecular transposition events were detected in the plasmid.

Se describe el manuscrito del Doctrinal de los cavalleros de Alfonso de Cartagena conservado en el Archivo Nacional de Praga, desconocido hasta el momento por editores y estudiosos de la obra del humanista, pese a haber sido ya identficado correctamente en 1984. De entre los 17 manuscritos del siglo siglo XV, más dos del siglo XVI y dos incunables, que constituyen la trasmisión manuscrita e impresa de la obra, el manuscrito descrito es uno de los más relevantes, por razones artísticas y filológicas. No sólo su factura es bellísima, realizada sobre pergamino y con iluminaciones, sino que ofrece lecturas convincentes para solucionar algún pasaje difícil. Se incluyen fotografías del manuscrito.

Trends in Net Survival from Vulvar Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Italy (1990–2015)

(1) Objective: In many Western countries, survival from vulvar squamous cell carcinoma (VSCC) has been stagnating for decades or has increased insufficiently from a clinical perspective. In Italy, previous studies on cancer survival have not taken vulvar cancer into consideration or have pooled patients with vulvar and vaginal cancer. To bridge this knowledge gap, we report the trend in survival from vulvar cancer between 1990 and 2015.
