Modélisation de la cascade de l’azote à l’échelle du paysage
2016
„Pozwól mi na pół godziny spokoju. Chcę być sam". O poczuciu wolności aktorów z reżyserem i scenarzystą Wiesławem Saniewskim rozmawia prof. Barbara M…
2015
In the interview about the sense of freedom in actors, the issue of the actors’ creative work and its role in theatre and film from the director’s point of view was raised. An outstanding Polish director answers the questions on acting criteria, describes actors’ professional work and distinguishes between it and other types of work, stresses the role of acting skills, thorough and efficient education preparing for work, the tradition of great acting schools and methods of the actor’s work on a role with the support of masters of acting and directing and indicates a social and cultural importance of great art of acting. In their conversation, Saniewski and Mróz also focus on the role of tim…
Genome‐phenotype‐environment associations identify signatures of selection in a panmictic population of threespine stickleback
2023
Adaptive genetic divergence occurs when selection imposed by the environment causes the genomic component of the phenotype to differentiate. However, genomic signatures of natural selection are usually identified without information on which trait is responding to selection by which selective agent(s). Here we integrate whole-genome-sequencing with phenomics and measures of putative selective agents to assess the extent of adaptive divergence in threespine stickleback occupying the highly heterogeneous lake Mývatn, NE Iceland. We find negligible genome wide divergence, yet multiple traits (body size, gill raker structure and defence traits) were divergent along known ecological gradients (t…
Sport commitment and adherence: A social-cognitive analysis. (Compromiso deportivo y adherencia: Un análisis cognitivo social).
2011
Abstract Statement of problem: This study aimed to analyse the ability of a model based on achievement motivation and self-determination theories to predict adherence to competitive sport. This model incorporated commitment as predictor of adherence. A prospective study was performed with a sample of 302 handball players aged between 14 and 18 years. Structural equation modelling gave support to the model proposed. It was verified the sequence of relationships between perceptions of coach-created mastery climate, psychological needs, self-determined motivation, commitment, and adherence. The major contribution of the study was to confirm a motivational model of adherence based on social-cog…
Climate and agriculture: empirical evidence for countries and agroecological zones of the Sahel
2022
International audience; ow heterogenous is the impact of climate change across space and the type of agricultural production? In this paper, we investigate the relationship between climate change and variability, measured by temperature and rainfall, and agricultural production at the country and agroecological zone levels of the Sahel. We consider a crop production index and five cereals (maize, millet, sorghum, wheat and rice). Based on an original climate database and an agricultural production function estimated for the period 1961–2016, we show that average rainfall and temperature during the growing season indeed have highly heterogeneous effects on agricultural production, depending …
A new naturalized alien plant in Sicily: Cotula australis (Sieber ex Spreng.) Hook. f. (Asteraceae) on the Acropolis of Lipari Island (Aeolian Archip…
2018
In February 2018 a copious population of Cotula australis Hook f. (Asteraceae, Anthemideae) was found on the cobblestones of the Acropolis of Lipari Island (Aeolian Archipelago, NE Sicily). This population represents the first record in southern Italy and is located at a distance of about 470 km as the crow flies from the nearest neighbour. From the phytosociological point of view, C. aus- tralis dominates a therophytic subnitrophilous dwarf vegetation of trampled sites which can be ascribed to the cosmopolitan class Polygono-Poetea annuae Rivas Mart. 1975. This plant communi- ty is proposed as a new association, Galio muralis-Cotuletum australis, which can be considered a Mediterranean vic…
Tracing the origin of the compensasome: evolutionary history of DEAH helicase and MYST acetyltransferase gene families.
2001
Dosage compensation in Drosophila is mediated by a complex of proteins and RNAs called the "compensasome." Two of the genes that encode proteins of the complex, maleless (mle) and males-absent-on-the-first (mof), respectively, belong to the DEAH helicase and MYST acetyltransferase gene families. We performed comprehensive phylogenetic and structural analyses to determine the evolutionary histories of these two gene families and thus to better understand the origin of the compensasome. All of the members of the DEAH and MYST families of the completely sequenced Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Caenorhabditis elegans genomes, as well as those so far (June 2000) found in Drosophila melanogaster (f…
Evidence for differential and redundant function of the Sox genes Dichaete and SoxN during CNS development in Drosophila.
2002
Group B Sox-domain proteins encompass a class of conserved DNA-binding proteins expressed from the earliest stages of metazoan CNS development. In all higher organisms studied to date, related Group B Sox proteins are co-expressed in the developing CNS; in vertebrates there are three (Sox1, Sox2 and Sox3) and in Drosophila there are two (SoxNeuro and Dichaete). It has been suggested there may be a degree of functional redundancy in Sox function during CNS development. We describe the CNS phenotype of a null mutation in the Drosophila SoxNeuro gene and provide the first direct evidence for both redundant and differential Sox function during CNS development in Drosophila. In the lateral neuro…
