The aim of this article is to show public diplomacy using the example of the European Union, which by its very nature is perceived as an actor with a natural potential to conduct public diplomacy. In a more detailed perspective, the analysis concerns EU public diplomacy towards the states of the Eastern Partnership, which is both an addressee of its objectives and a catalyst for its difficulties and constraints. Unusual Regioselectivity in the Opening of Epoxides by Carboxylic Acid Enediolates

Addition of carboxylic acid dianions appears to be a potential alternative to the use of aluminium enolates for nucleophilic ring opening of epoxides. These conditions require the use of a sub-stoichiometric amount of amine (10% mol) for dianion generation and the previous activation of the epoxide with LiCl. Yields are good, with high regioselectivity, but the use of styrene oxide led, unexpectedly, to a mixture resulting from the attack on both the primary and secondary carbon atoms. Generally, a low diastereoselectivity is seen on attack at the primary center, however only one diastereoisomer was obtained from attack to the secondary carbon of the styrene oxide.

The article analyses the history of the basilian convent of San Salvatore during Middle Ages in connection with social and economic life of Palermo. San Salvatore was a royal fondation of Norman age, but it had to face the Archbishop of Palermo, because the convent belonged to his diocese. The convent had a strong relationship with the city and kept its archive. Abbassess and nuns belonged to knightly and mercantile families, whose members hold offices in the city administration or in the government of the Kingdom. At the end of the Fifteenth century the Archbishop of Palermo and the Pope promoted a reform and the convent abandoned the Greek rite.
