Concentrations of metallothioneins (MT) were analysed in bivalve molluscs Anodonta spp. and Unio spp. from 6 lakes and watercourses of Latvia with different anthropogenic pressure. The aim of the study was to find the relationship between MT in molluscs and concentrations of heavy metals in sediments. Unio spp. and Anodonta spp. showed no significant differences in the concentrations of MT. High concentrations of heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Hg, Cu, Zn) were detected in the deepest parts of polluted water bodies, however their concentrations significantly decreased in near shore sediments inhabited by molluscs. Il saggio, oltre a rivisitare quanto la cultura del restauro ha messo a punto nel corso del Novecento sul dibattito in materia di centri storici, ha posto l’accento, partendo dalle specificità di quello di Modica, sul restauro e la rifunzionalizzazione dei grandi ex-complessi monastici. Essi potrebbero costituire i volani di una significativa valorizzazione se inseriti in una programmazione coordinata e strategica di nuovi usi, alla luce delle più recenti acquisizioni di restauro e patrimonio culturale, inteso come riappropriazione di esso a partire dalle comunità, in sintonia con i programmi Unesco in cui Modica è rientrata all’interno dell’Itinerario del Val di Noto.
