Introduction Currently there is limited real-life data available regarding the distribution of COPD patients using the GOLD 2011 criteria. The German DACCORD registry that collects data from a large ‘real life’ population sample was used to categorise COPD patients according to GOLD 2011. Small airways function and molecular markers in exhaled air in mild asthma.

Background: Several studies suggest that the periphery of the lung is the major site of inflammation in asthma. Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) and 8-isoprostane have been proposed as biomarkers of inflammation and oxidative stress. We therefore hypothesised that small airway dysfunction in asthma is of inflammatory origin that can be detected by molecular markers in exhaled air. Social robots and therapeutic adherence: a new challenge in pediatric asthma?

Social Robots are used in different contexts and, in healthcare, they are better known as Socially Assistive Robots. In the context of asthma, the use of Socially Assistive Robots has the potential to increase motivation and engagement to treatment. Other positive roles proposed for Socially Assistive Robots are to provide education, training regarding treatments, and feedback to patients. This review evaluates emerging interventions for improving treatment adherence in pediatric asthma, focusing on the possible future role of social robots in the clinical practice.
