Algorithms for Graph and Network Analysis: Graph Alignment

2019

In this article we discuss the problem of graph alignment, which has been longly referred to for the purpose of analyzing and comparing biological networks. In particular, we describe different facets of graph alignment, according to the number of input networks, the fixed output objective, the possible heterogeneity of input data. Accordingly, we will discuss pairwise and multiple alignment, global and local alignment, etc. Moreover, we provide a comprehensive overview of the algorithms and techniques proposed in the literature to solve each of the specific considered types of graph alignment. In order to make the material presented here complete and useful to guide the reader in the use o…

Cuerpos moldeables y vidas modulables: La invención del estado holísticamente saludable como bienestar (integral)

2020

The article argues ?from the Deleuzian concepts of society of control, moulding and modulation and the Rosean theory on the economization and medicalization of life? that the expansion of the concept of health in terms of integral and subjective well-being is the effect of a socio-historical shift in the way we relate to this signifier, and therefore to our bodies and ourselves. We use this interpretative network to analyze the effects that the biopsychosocial health paradigm has had in the context of aesthetic surgery and fitness practice. As a result, we see that the expansion of the concept of health has extended the domain of medicine into the spheres of personal care and physical appea…

Zero viscosity limit of the Oseen equations in a channel

2001

Oseen equations in the channel are considered. We give an explicit solution formula in terms of the inverse heat operators and of projection operators. This solution formula is used for the analysis of the behavior of the Oseen equations in the zero viscosity limit. We prove that the solution of Oseen equations converges in W1,2 to the solution of the linearized Euler equations outside the boundary layer and to the solution of the linearized Prandtl equations inside the boundary layer. © 2001 Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics.

The second Weyl coefficient for a first-order system

2020

For a scalar elliptic self-adjoint operator on a compact manifold without boundary we have two-term asymptotics for the number of eigenvalues between 0 and λ when λ → ∞, under an additional dynamical condition. (See [3, Theorem 3.5] for an early result in this direction.) In the case of an elliptic system of first order, the existence of two-term asymptotics was also established quite early and as in the scalar case Fourier integral operators have been the crucial tool. The complete computation of the coefficient of the second term was obtained only in the 2013 paper [2]. In the present paper we simplify that calculation. The main observation is that with the existence of two-term asymptoti…

Gas-phase detection of HSOD and empirical equilibrium structure of oxadisulfane

2006

We present the first gas phase spectra of singly deuterated oxadisulfane, HSOD, in its vibrational ground state. More than 100 transitions have been recorded with highest frequency accuracy using the Cologne Terahertz Spectrometer. The molecular parameters derived from a least squares fit analysis proof HSOD to be an almost accidental symmetric prolate top molecule with an asymmetry parameter kZK0.9985. Spectra of c-type and weaker b-type transitions have been recorded in the range from 716 to 772 GHz. The ratio of the dipole moments mc/mbZ2.4(3) has been derived from measured line intensities. The c-type transitions are split by the tunneling motion of a hindered internal rotation, whereas…

Muon spin relaxation studies of iron(II) spin crossover complexes

2008

A series of model iron(II) spin crossover complexes have been investigated by temperature dependent muon spin relaxation (mu SR) techniques at ISIS, UK. The thermally induced spin crossover in these materials could be monitored by following the initial asymmetry parameter, a(0), in zero-field. We established that the behavior of a(0) correlates well with the shape of the spin crossover curve derived from magnetic susceptibility measurements, whether hysteretic, smooth, or abrupt. In addition, the longitudinal field dependence of a(0) not only provides information on the nature of the muonic species but also on their interactions and respective localization in the crystal lattice. Useful ins…

Prognostic importance of DNA from human papillomavirus in patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma.

2021

Survival of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is generally low, with the likelihood of locoregional recurrence or disease progression (LR/DP). Knowledge of prognostic factors for survival is key to achieving an understanding and increased survival. The present study aimed to identify prognostic factors for patients with OSCC, especially the presence of DNA from human papillomavirus (HPV). Retrospective cohort study including 119 patients with OSCC treated at the National Cancer Institute in Mexico City (2009-2013). Clinical information was obtained from patient records including LR/DP. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues were obtained and used for detecting DNA from di…

Probabilistic analysis of truss structures with uncertain parameters (virtual distortion method approach)

2004

A new approach for probabilistic characterization of linear elastic redundant trusses with uncertainty on the various members subjected to deterministic loads acting on the nodes of the structure is presented. The method is based on the simple observation that variations of structural parameters are equivalent to superimposed strains on a reference structure depending on the axial forces on the elastic modulus of the original structure as well as on the uncertainty (virtual distortion method approach). Superposition principle may be applied to separate contribution to mechanical response due to external loads and parameter variations. Statically determinate trusses dealt with the proposed m…

ON THE ASYMPTOTIC DISTRIBUTION OF BARTLETT'S Up-STATISTIC

1985

Abstract. In this paper the asymptotic behaviour of Bartlett's Up-statistic for a goodness-of-fit test for stationary processes, is considered. The asymptotic distribution of the test process is given under the assumption that a central limit theorem for the empirical spectral distribution function holds. It is shown that the Up-statistic tends to the supremum of a tied down Brownian motion. By a counterexample we refute the conjecture that this distribution is in general of the Kolmogorov-Smirnov type. The validity of the central limit theorem for the spectral distribution function is then discussed. Finally a goodness-of-fit test for ARMA-processes based on the estimated innovation sequen…

Asymptotic optimality of myopic information-based strategies for Bayesian adaptive estimation

2016

This paper presents a general asymptotic theory of sequential Bayesian estimation giving results for the strongest, almost sure convergence. We show that under certain smoothness conditions on the probability model, the greedy information gain maximization algorithm for adaptive Bayesian estimation is asymptotically optimal in the sense that the determinant of the posterior covariance in a certain neighborhood of the true parameter value is asymptotically minimal. Using this result, we also obtain an asymptotic expression for the posterior entropy based on a novel definition of almost sure convergence on "most trials" (meaning that the convergence holds on a fraction of trials that converge…
