The Protection of the Weaker Parties in the Platform Economy
2018
Known by many names – platform, sharing, peer-to-peer (p2p), collaborative economy, and so on - entirely new business models have emerged in recent years, whereby online platforms use digital technologies to connect distinct groups of users in order to facilitate transactions for the exchange of assets and services. This dramatic shift in business organisation and market structure has opened an intense debate on the persisting need for those regulatory measures that typically protect the weaker party in bilateral business-to-consumer transactions. Widespread calls for a more “levelled playing field” makes a strong argument for reconsidering the scope of regulation and delegating regulatory …
Stratigraphic and structural relationships between Meso-Cenozoic Lagonegro basin and coeval carbonate platforms in southern Apennines, Italy
1999
Abstract Stratigraphic studies and facies analysis integrated with a new geological and structural survey of the Meso-Cenozoic units outcropping in the Campania–Lucania Apennines, southern Italy, allowed us to restore the palaeogeographic pattern and the tectonic evolution of the chain during Oligo-Miocene times. The southern Apennines are a N150°-striking and NE-verging fold-and-thrust belt mainly derived from the deformation of the African–Apulian passive margin. Four wide belts with different features have been recognized in the chain area. From east to west the following units outcrop: (a) successions characterized by basinal to marginal facies, ranging in age from Cretaceous to Miocene…

Mācību platformas izglītības digitalizācijas kontekstā Latvijā
2018
Šobrīd, Latvijā notiek vairākas izglītības sistēmas reformas, un viena no tām, nepārprotami, skar arī izglītības digitalizācijas politiku. Pedagoģiskie spēki, skolas vadība un izglītības satura veidotāji nespēj pilnvērtīgi izmantot daudzpusīgo, digitālo mācīšanās risinājumu iespējas un kavē izglītības digitalizācijas procesa norisi, jo tehnoloģiju attīstības straujā daba ir grūti savienojama ar izglītības sistēmas pārmaiņu procesu kārtību. Nepieciešamība izvērtēt izglītības digitalizācijas pedagoģisko potenciālu un Latvijā izveidotā un pielāgotā digitālā mācību satura iespējas noteica Artas Rūdolfas maģistra darba tematu “Mācību platformas izglītības digitalizācijas kontekstā Latvijā”. Determinants of performance drivers in online food delivery platforms: a dynamic performance management perspective
2022
PurposeThis study aims to demonstrate that the Dynamic Performance Management (DPM) framework, integrating performance management with system dynamics modelling, enables decision-makers to identify sustainable strategies in online food delivery platforms, thereby avoiding company failure.Design/methodology/approachThis study undertakes a multistep methodological approach. After the literature review, a retrospective case study approach was used. To build the DPM framework and the system dynamics simulation model, primary and secondary data were collected and analysed.FindingsThis study by adopting the DPM perspective highlights the critical role performance drivers play to assess the viabil…
Scalable and effective multi-level entangled photon states: a promising tool to boost quantum technologies
2021
Abstract Multi-level (qudit) entangled photon states are a key resource for both fundamental physics and advanced applied science, as they can significantly boost the capabilities of novel technologies such as quantum communications, cryptography, sensing, metrology, and computing. The benefits of using photons for advanced applications draw on their unique properties: photons can propagate over long distances while preserving state coherence, and they possess multiple degrees of freedom (such as time and frequency) that allow scalable access to higher dimensional state encoding, all while maintaining low platform footprint and complexity. In the context of out-of-lab use, photon generation…
Force-Time Characteristics and Running Velocity of Male Sprinters during the Acceleration Phase of Sprinting
1988
Abstract In an effort to investigate the force-time characteristics during the acceleration phase of the sprint start, eight male sprinters were used as subjects. Runs up to 3 m were analyzed from film, and force-time parameters were measured on a force platform. In a starting stance the reaction time of the group was .118 ± .016 s and the force production lasted .342 ± .022 s. The maximal resultant force at the moment of maximal horizontal force was 19.3 ± 2.2 N x kg1, and the direction of the force was 32 ± 7°. In the very last instant before leaving the blocks the velocity of the center of gravity was 3.46 ± .32 m x s−1. In the first contact after leaving the blocks there was a braking p…
Effects of sesame seed meal and bambaranut meal on growth, feed utilization and body composition of juvenile African catfish Clarias gariepinus
2014
Plant proteins are plausible fishmeal substitutes but are deficient in some essential amino acids (EAA) like lysine and methionine. Combination of different plant proteins with complimentary EAA could be a useful alternative. Bambaranut (Voandzeia subterranea) contains high amount of lysine while methionine is in sesame seed (Sesamum indicum). This experiment tested effects of combining sesame seed meal (SSM) and bambaranut meal (BNM) on juvenile African catfish Clarias gariepinus. Inclusion levels (%) of SSM:BNM in four novel diets were feed 1 (F1) 0:35, feed 2 (F2) 11.7:23.3, feed 3 (F3) 23.3:11.7, feed 4 (F4) 35:0. Catfish (initial weight ± SD 11.7 ± 0.56 g) were stocked in four replicat…
