TEAM-BASED INNOVATION CONTESTS FOR CROWDSOURCING: AN EXPLORATORY STUDY ON IDEACONNECTION PLATFORM
2022
Crowdsourcing for innovation contests represents a promising mechanism to access and integrate external ideas. Among various crowdsourcing types, online, team-based contest is one of the most prominent one. The objective of this study is to deepen the understanding of team-based crowdsourcing by exploring specifically the issues that characterise the innovation process of crowdsourcing in a virtual team setting. To empirically pursue this aim, we conducted an interview-based case study leveraging interviews of 106 solvers and 24 facilitators moderating the team of solvers, which have participated in contests through the IdeaConnection crowdsourcing platform. We found that five main issues …
Evidence that water transmits the disease caused by the fish pathogen Photobacterium damselae subsp. damselae
2000
The transmission through water of the disease caused by the fish pathogen, Photobacterium damselae subsp. damselae, as well as the role of the skin mucus in the initial steps of the infection, have been studied. All tested strains resisted the bactericidal activity of the mucus and showed an ability to adhere to it, but only those virulent by the intraperitoneal route were infective through water. Moribund fishes showed the typical signs of the disease: haemorrhaged areas on the body surface and ulcerative lesions with mucus degradation. These results suggest that the pathogen can be transmitted to fish through water and use the skin as a portal of entry.
The Norwegian eHealth Platform: Development Through Cultivation Strategies and Incremental Changes
2017
This chapter describes the conceptualization process, early stage development, and incremental changes in the creation of the Norwegian eHealth platform for patient-oriented services. The platform was launched in 2011 as an information-oriented portal and gradually developed into a complex platform enabling several eHealth services. Some of these services required the linking and reuse of existing components and resources, while other required the creation of novel parts. Overall the process has been driven by strong political will and visions towards making health services more accessible to informed patients. In this chapter we examine this effort as a process of cultivation of the instal…
Smart Monitoring for Semantic Wireless (SCADA/DCS) Systems with Semantic SNMP Protocol.
2015
International audience; n this paper we propose a new implementation of SNMP protocol through (WS) and SOAP protocol, for wireless semantic (SCADA/DCS) systems and (IT-SCADA) platform monitoring. (WS) and SOAP may run on top of secure transport services implemented through protocols like HTTPS combined with industrial protocols as (DNP3, SOAP, ISM BAND, and ZIGBEE).We chose ZIGBBE wireless protocol for implementing our semantic security (IT-SCADA) management platform with semantic SNMP protocol via WS. To detect and infiltrate wireless radio network and semantic attacks, the use of (WS) gateways is needed to include SNMP devices into (WS) based management architecture. The evaluation shows …
How Cross-Platform Technology Can Facilitate Easier Creation of Business Apps
2017
Applications for mobile devices – apps – have seen unprecedented growth in importance. Ever better apps keep propelling the proliferation of mobile computing. App development is rather easy, particularly if it is based on Web technology. However, implementing apps that are user friendly and useful in the long-run is cumbersome. Thereby, it typically is expensive for corporate developers. Nonetheless, business apps are embraced by enterprises. To overcome the overhead of developing separately for multiple platforms and to mitigate the problems of device fragmentation, cross-platform development approaches are employed. While many such approaches exist, few have found widespread usage. In thi…

The social perspective of the main MOOC platforms through Facebook
2017
HDR-ARtiSt: High Dynamic Range Advanced Real-Time Imaging System
2012
International audience; This paper describes the HDR-ARtiSt hardware platform, a FPGA-based architecture that can produce a real- time high dynamic range video from successive image acquisition. The hardware platform is built around a standard low dynamic range (LDR) CMOS sensor and a Virtex 5 FPGA board. The CMOS sensor is a EV76C560 provided by e2v. This 1.3 Megapixel device offers novel pixel integration/readout modes and em- bedded image pre-processing capabilities including multiframe acquisition with various exposure times. Our approach consists of a hardware architecture with different algorithms: double exposure control during image capture, building of an HDR image by combining the…
Scheduling independent stochastic tasks under deadline and budget constraints
2018
This article discusses scheduling strategies for the problem of maximizing the expected number of tasks that can be executed on a cloud platform within a given budget and under a deadline constraint. The execution times of tasks follow independent and identically distributed probability laws. The main questions are how many processors to enroll and whether and when to interrupt tasks that have been executing for some time. We provide complexity results and an asymptotically optimal strategy for the problem instance with discrete probability distributions and without deadline. We extend the latter strategy for the general case with continuous distributions and a deadline and we design an ef…
