Mapping Sediment Accumulation Rate by using Volume magnetic Susceptibility Core Correlation in a contaminated Bay (Lake Geneva, Switzerland)
2003
The Bay of Vidy is the most contaminated area of Lake Geneva: contamination is caused by the effluent of the sewage treatment plant (STP) of the City of Lausanne. The implementation of a chemical stage in the treatment plant to remove phosphorus using FeC13 in 1971 is indirectly recorded in the lake sediments by a strong and sharp increase in the volume magnetic susceptibility (VMS) signal. A total of 43 sediment cores have been retrieved and measured for VMS. The synchronism of the VMS signal increase and its relation to the implementation of the P-removal stage in the STP has been shown in seven 137Cs-dated sediment cores. The VMS signal has been used to date by stratigraphie correlation …
Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplantation for Acquired Aplastic Anemia: Better Outcome with Bone Marrow as Compared to Peripheral Blood in HLA-Matched Sib…
2009
Abstract Abstract 876 Background: Transplantation of bone marrow (BM) from a HLA-matched sibling donor is an effective treatment for severe aplastic anemia (AA) with long-term survival in excess of 80%. In the recent years there were two trends in allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT) for AA: (1) increasing proportion of transplants performed from matched unrelated donors (MUD) and (2) increasing proportion of transplants using peripheral blood progenitor cells (PBSC) as stem cell source instead of BM. A similar switch to PBSC over BM grafts is reported in leukemia transplants. PBSC grafts for leukemia are associated with higher rates of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD). This …
Heterocyclisch anellierte Steroide aus 2-Hydroxymethylen-canrenon
1995
A-ring annulated heterocycles, the isoxazole 6, the pyrazoles 8 and the pyrimidines 9 are prepared starting from 2-hydroxymethylene canrenone 1. Binding studies were carried out with the compounds 1 and 6-8 using estrogen, progesterone, androgen, gluco- and mineralocorticoid receptors as well as the serum proteins SHBG and CBG: the substances were inactive on the receptor level. 1, 7 and 8a show weak binding affinity to CBG.
Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in patients (pts) with advanced gastric cancer/gastroesophageal junction cancer (GC/GEJC) or esophageal adenoc…
2021
4066 Background: CheckMate 649 (NCT02872116) is a randomized, open label phase 3 study in first line (1L) GC/GEJC/EAC. Prespecified interim results showed statistically significant improvement in overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) for N+C vs C in all randomized pts and pts whose tumors expressed programmed death-ligand 1 combined positive score (CPS) ≥ 5. We present interim HRQOL results for CPS ≥ 5 pts, included as exploratory in the study. Methods: HRQOL was assessed using EQ-5D-3L (EQ-5D) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy–Gastric Cancer (FACT-Ga). Assessments were performed at baseline (BL), every 6 weeks during treatment, and during follow-up. Change fr…
Hemoglobin Level Analysis in Hemodialysis Patients Treated With Erythropoiesis Stimulating Agents
2010
In this chapter authors try to develop an expert system with the help of neural network method like Organizing Maps (SOMs) for hemodialysis patient.  Neural network models play a very important role for data analysis of hemodialysis patients with end-stage renal disease.  There are two main goals: firstly, the knowledge extraction from a database using Self-Organizing Maps (SOMs); and secondly, to provide an accurate prediction of Hb levels next month.
Motivation zur psychosomatisch-psychotherapeutischen Bearbeitung von beruflichen Belastungen - Entwicklung und Validierung eines Fragebogens
2005
Background There is a lack of questionnaires assessing the motivation of inpatients to scrutinize occupational stresses and deal with them as part of their psychotherapeutic treatment. Work-related stress contributes significantly to the development of mental disorders. Vocational reintegration is an outcome criterion for the success of vocational rehabilitation. Patients are often not motivated for dealing with occupational stresses during inpatient medical rehabilitation. Therefore it is necessary to assess patient motivation at the beginning of treatment, in order to assign them to specific interventions, e. g. promoting motivation. Method A questionnaire (Fragebogen zur berufsbezogenen …
P–435 LH preserves oocyte-granulosa cell communication in mouse ovaries exposed to chemotherapy with alkylating agents
2021
Abstract Study question Does Luteinizing Hormone (LH) protect the follicular endowment and growth by improving oocyte-granulosa cell (GC) communication of follicles exposed to chemotherapy at the primordial stage? Summary answer LH treatment protects mouse primordial follicles against alkylating agents by preventing the chemotherapy-induced follicular depletion and the impairment of oocyte-GC communication during follicular growth. What is known already Impaired folliculogenesis is one of the most common deleterious side effects of alkylating agents in ovaries. Bidirectional communication between the oocyte and surrounding GCs is crucial for oocyte development. Therefore, defective gap junc…
Interferon-alpha stimulates production of interleukin-10 in activated CD4+ T cells and monocytes
1996
In the present study, we investigated the effect of interferon-alpha (IFN-alpha) on the expression of interleukin-10 (IL-10) mRNA and protein synthesis in human monocytes and CD4+ T cells. In mononuclear cells, IFN-alpha induced expression of IL-10 mRNA and further enhanced lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated IL-10 expression. In purified monocytes, a strong expression of IL-10 mRNA induced by LPS was not further enhanced by IFN-alpha. In highly purified CD4+ T cells, IFN- alpha upregulated IL-10 mRNA upon activation with phytohemagglutinin and phorbol myristate acetate. In purified monocytes, an effect of IFN- alpha on IL-10 protein synthesis was dependent on costimulation with LPS. Maxima…
Generalized feed-forward based method for wind energy prediction
2013
Abstract Even though a number of new mathematical functions have been proposed for modeling wind speed probability density distributions, still the Weibull function continues to be the most commonly used model in the literature. Therefore, the parameters of this function are still widely used to obtain typical wind probability density distributions for finding the wind energy potential by researchers, engineers and designers. Once long-term average of Weibull function’s parameters are known, then the probability density distributions can easily be obtained. Artificial neural network (ANN) can be used as alternative to analytical approach as ANN offers advantages such as no required knowledg…
Synthesis and support composition effects on CH4 partial oxidation over Ni–CeLa oxides
2015
Abstract Two series of Ni (6 wt%) catalysts supported over CeO 2 , La 2 O 3 and mixed CeO 2 –La 2 O 3 were prepared by co-precipitation and by wet-impregnation. The effect of the two Ni loading procedures on the catalyst structural properties was investigated by XRD, TPR and XPS. The catalytic behavior of the catalysts was tested in the methane partial oxidation reaction performed at 1 atm in a temperature range of 400–800 °C using dilute feed gas mixture with CH 4 /O 2 = 2 and gas hourly space velocity of 60,000 ml g −1 h −1 . Total methane combustion was observed within the 450 °C ≤ T ≤ 650 °C temperature range. Above 650 °C partial oxidation of methane started to occur, reaching at 80…
