The relationship between attachment styles and internalizing/externalizing problems: the mediating role of self-criticism
2019
Many recent studies have explored the potential links between attachment style dimensions, personality vulnerability factors for psychopathology, and psychological and behavioral problems, particularly those along the internalizing and externalizing spectrum. However, previous studies have not examined these links within a structural equation model that can examine multiple predictors and outcomes, and therefore have not fully investigated the specificity of links between these factors. This cross-sectional study examined the mediating role of self-criticism in the relationship between attachment style dimensions and internalizing and externalizing problems. The sample included 420 nonclini…
Bullying victimization and muscle dysmorphic disorder in Italian adolescents: The mediating role of attachment to peers
2021
Abstract Bullying victimization has a negative impact on the psychological health of individuals, including in cases of muscle dysmorphic disorder (MD). However, research into possible mediation factors is sparse. The present study aimed to investigate the role of attachment to peers in the association between bullying victimization and MD. This study included 1,062 participants with an average age of 17.44 years (range 15–21 years; SD = 1.14) from four high schools in northwestern Italy. The hypothesized relationships among the variables were tested through structural equation model. Path analysis modeling yielded significant results showing an indirect path from bullying victimization to …
Violence against women in heterosexual couples: A review of psychological and medico-legal considerations.
2021
Intimate partner violence against women (IPVAW) is the most pervasive violation of women’s rights worldwide, causing devastating lifelong damage. Victims can suffer physical, emotional or mental health problems, and experience detrimental effects in social, psychological and relational health with their families, especially children. Due to the complexity regarding violence against women in heterosexual couples, it is important to make a clear distinction between psychological and physical mistreatment, which also includes psychological violence. This differentiation is important in determining different emotional and psychological aspects of mistreatment in order to understand the reasons …
The content validity of the adult attachment interview. An empirical investigation using text analysis
2011
The aim of this study was to conduct a preliminary investigation of the content validity of the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI). Content validity is a series of hypothesis control methods relating to the communication of facts and it can be tested using several procedures of analytical decomposition (Rositi, 1988). In order to evaluate the content validity of a text, Sireci (1998), Sireci and Geisinger (1992, 1995), and Ding (2005) suggested the integration within this technique of multidimensional scaling and cluster analysis. The aim of this study was to conduct a preliminary investigation of the content validity of the AAI, as proposed in the literature. We hypothesized that participant…
Suppression of ischemia-induced fos expression and AP-1 activity by an antisense oligodeoxynucleotide to c-fos mRNA.
1994
The molecular events of brain adaptation to injury that may underlie functional recovery after stroke remain largely undefined. Recent observations of altered gene expression in ischemic brain using animal stroke models have opened new avenues for exploration of the biochemical cascades after stroke [1–11]. These postischemic events include an increase in extracellular excitatory amino acid neurotransmitters such as glutamate. Glutamate receptor–mediated activation of phospholipases and protein kinases results in the alteration of nuclear regulatory processes, including the expression of immediate early genes such as c-fos, junB, and c-jun [5, 12]. The Fos, Jun, and JunB proteins have been …
Norovirus GII.4 antibodies in breast milk and serum samples: their role preventing virus-like particles binding to their receptors.
2014
Background: Norovirus GII.4 genotype is a leading cause of nonbacterial gastroenteritis in infants. Effective vaccines against noroviruses are not yet available, enhancing the interest of the protection mechanisms elicited by breast milk that may contain norovirus-specific antibodies and histo-blood group antigens. The aims of our study were to analyze norovirus GII.4-specific antibodies in breast milk and serum and to assess their blocking activity on recombinant norovirus virus-like particles (VLPs) binding to saliva. Methods: Mature milk and serum from 108 mothers were analyzed for specific IgA to norovirus GII.4-2006b and for their blocking activity on the binding of norovirus GII.4-200…
The Dynamic of Innovation Networks: A Switching Model on Technological Change
2012
In this paper we introduce an agent-based model with heterogeneous firms which compare their mutual innovation strategies on different network structures. By implementing a dynamic behavioral switching via a fitness mechanism based on agents performance, companies can endogenously modify their tactics of technological change and switch among three groups: stand-alone innovators, collaborative innovators and imitators. We focus the analysis on the impact of these three innovation categories on micro, meso and macro aggregates. Our findings show that collaborative companies are those having the highest positive impact on the economic system. Moreover, we study the properties of the emerging n…
Periodontal health in shortened dental arches: A 10-year RCT

IMPACT OF SHORTENED DENTAL ARCH ON ORAL HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE.
2021
Abstract Background A shortened dental arch (SDA) is an established treatment concept for patients with missing molars. However, little is known regarding long-term course of oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in patients with SDA and the benefits from replacement of missing molars. Aim Purpose of this multi-center randomized clinical trial was to assess OHRQoL over a period of 15 years in patients with molar replacement by a removable partial denture (RPD) compared to patients with a restored SDA without molar replacement. Design Patients at least 35 years of age with all molars missing in one jaw and at least the canine and one premolar present on each side were included. Patien…
Evaluation of a porous hydroxyapatite alloplast in the management of grade II furcation defects in molars: a case series
2012
Introduction: The present case series evaluates the efficacy of a hydroxyapatite graft material in the management of grade II furcation involvement in first molars. Material and methods: Eight patients presenting with a total of 9 grade II furcation defects in relation to the facial aspect of either maxillary or mandibular first molars were treated with a porous hydroxyapatite alloplast. The clinical outcomes were measured in terms of change in probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level (vertical and horizontal) at 6 months post-operatively. Radiographs were used as supplements. Results: At 6 months, there was a mean pocket depth reduction of 3.12±1.25 mm, a mean vertical attachment…
