The Effects of Attachment, Temperament, and Self-Esteem on Technology Addiction: A Mediation Model among Young Adults
2022
Excessive use of technology has become a worldwide problem due to its high prevalence, fast growth rate, and undesirable consequences. However, little is known about underlying psychological mechanisms that maintain excessive use of technology. We investigated the mediating role of self-esteem, novelty seeking, and persistence on the relationship between attachment dimensions and technology addiction among young adults. Data were collected from 727 young adults (females, N = 478; 66.3 percent), aged 23.44 ± 3.02 years. Participants completed self-report measures of secure and insecure attachment dimensions, personality, and temperament characteristics (i.e., self-esteem, novelty seeking, an…
Olfaction scaffolds the developing human from neonate to adolescent and beyond
2020
The impact of the olfactory sense is regularly apparent across development. The fetus is bathed in amniotic fluid (AF) that conveys the mother's chemical ecology. Transnatal olfactory continuity between the odours of AF and milk assists in the transition to nursing. At the same time, odours emanating from the mammary areas provoke appetitive responses in newborns. Odours experienced from the mother's diet during breastfeeding, and from practices such as pre-mastication, may assist in the dietary transition at weaning. In parallel, infants are attracted to and recognize their mother's odours; later, children are able to recognize other kin and peers based on their odours. Familiar odours, su…
The Role of Couples' Attachment Styles in Patients' Adjustment to Cancer.
2016
Objective: This study aimed to understand how psychological variables and attachment styles can contribute to improve effective and functional adjustment to the disease and promote better psychological well-being. Methods: A total of 176 participants (88 couples) took part in this research. One member of each couple attended surgery centers at the Oncology Department of the University Hospital of Palermo. Each participant had filled in 5 questionnaires assessing the variables couple relationships, quality of life, anxiety, depression, and psychosocial adjustment to illness. Results:</b…
One-sided and mutually aggressive couples: Differences in attachment, conflict prevalence, and coping
2015
Contains fulltext : 150212.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) This study investigated concurrent links between adolescent romantic couples’ reports of aggression (relational and physical) and relationship functioning (e.g., attachment security, conflict prevalence, coping strategies, jealousy, and affiliative and romantic relationship quality) using a pattern-oriented approach. The sample included 194 romantic partner dyads (Mage = 16.99 years for females and Mage = 18.41 years for males). A hierarchical cluster analysis identified five distinct subgroups of dyads based on male and female reports of relational and physical aggression, ranging from nonaggressive couples (42%), to tho…
Periodontal clinical and microbiological data in desquamative gingivitis patients.
2013
Objectives: A series of patients affected by desquamative gingivitis (DG) was investigated in order to evaluate relation patterns among clinical parameters relevant to plaque induced periodontitis, periodontal microbiological data and the presence of DG lesions. Patients and methods: Eight oral lichen planus (OLP) and four mucous membrane pemphigoid (MMP) patients were examined. Periodontal measurements (performed at six sites per tooth on all teeth) included probing depth (PD), gingival recession (REC), clinical attachment loss (CAL) and full mouth plaque (FMPS) and bleeding (FMBS) scores; the presence and the exact location (site by site) of DG lesions were carefully recorded. Sub-gingiva…
Preserving the abductor mechanism in robotic THR: the influence of stem design and cutterpath.
2004
The tip of the greater trochanter is the attachment site for the abductor muscles of the hip joint. Its preservation in robotic and conventional THR is important for normal gait. The effect of different stem designs and robotic cutterpaths on the preservation of the trochanter tip is examined. One anatomical stem, one straight stem, and one stem specifically designed for robotic THR were implanted virtually in CT scans of osteoarthrotic hip joints using the Torch preoperative planning unit (URS-ortho). In transverse sections of the trochanter tip, dimensions of the trochanter area removed by the milling tool were recorded for each stem design and different cutterpaths (3-axis versus 5-axis m…
Infant-Mother Attachment Can Be Improved through Group Intervention: A Preliminary Evaluation in Spain in a Non-Randomized Controlled Trial
2011
The quality of infant-mother attachment has been linked to competence in different domains of child development. Research indicates that early intervention can enhance the quality of infant-mother attachment, though its efficacy in a group format has yet to be evaluated. The current study is aimed at examining the usefulness of a group intervention in enhancing infant-mother attachment. An intervention aimed at addressing aspects such as maternal responsivity, sensitivity and childrearing behaviour was developed by the researchers and experienced psychologists. The intervention spanned a period of 14 months starting from the third quarter of pregnancy. The intervention was evaluated among 2…
Healing of intrabony defects following treatment with a bovine-derived xenograft and collagen membrane
2003
The mediating role of perceived peer support in the relation between quality of attachment and internalizing problems in adolescence: a longitudinal …
2016
The study was aimed to verify, from a longitudinal perspective, whether perceived peer support would mediate the relationship between attachment and internalizing problems. Longitudinal participants included 482 adolescents (245 boys) aged 14–15 years in Wave 1 and 17–18 years in Wave 2. Participants in Wave 1 completed the Relationship Questionnaire, and those in Wave 2 completed the Social Support Questionnaire and the Youth Self-Report. Results showed that secure attachment positively predicted high levels of 15 perceived peer support and negatively predicted internalizing problems, whereas fearful and preoccupied attachment negatively predicted perceived peer support and positively pred…
Proliferative response of cells of the dentogingival junction to mechanical stimulation
2001
SUMMARY The aim of this research was to study the proliferative response of junctional epithelium (JE) and gingival connective tissue (GCT) to mechanical stimulation in vivo with regard to the potential occurrence of apical migration of JE and loss of GCT attachment during orthodontic tooth movement. Elastic bands were inserted between the maxillary first and second molars of male rats aged 8 weeks, which were pulse-labelled with 3 H-thymidine and subsequently killed in groups, together with labelled control animals (a total of 98 rats) after periods of 1‐168 hours. Autoradiographs were prepared from plastic mesiodistal sections, and parameters of cell proliferation for JE and GCT of the pa…
