Absolute volume of the rectum and AUC from rectal DVH between 25Gy and 50Gy predict acute gastrointestinal toxicity with IG-IMRT in prostate cancer
2016
International audience; Background: To determine whether dose/volume specific endpoints (DVSE) or Area under the rectal DVH curve (rAUC) better predict acute gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity in prostate cancer patients treated with IMRT in the era of daily image guidance (IG-IMRT). Methods: A set of DVSE was recorded from V25 to V75 (increments of 5Gy) (both in % and in cc) for 180 men. The rAUC was calculated for doses ranging between 25Gy and 50Gy (rAUC(25-50)). Univariate and multivariate logistic regressions were performed to determine the relationship between DVSE or rAUC(25-50) and the appearance of any acute GI toxicity. Results: The rates of acute grade 1 (G1), G2 and G3 GI toxicities…
EndoPredict improves the prognostic classification derived from common clinical guidelines in ER-positive, HER2-negative early breast cancer
2012
Background In early estrogen receptor (ER)-positive/HER2-negative breast cancer, the decision to administer chemotherapy is largely based on prognostic criteria. The combined molecular/clinical EndoPredict test (EPclin) has been validated to accurately assess prognosis in this population. In this study, the clinical relevance of EPclin in relation to well-established clinical guidelines is assessed. Patients and methods We assigned risk groups to 1702 ER-positive/HER2-negative postmenopausal women from two large phase III trials treated only with endocrine therapy. Prognosis was assigned according to National Comprehensive Cancer Center Network-, German S3-, St Gallen guidelines and the EPc…
Stage IV breast cancer: a population-based study about prognostic factors according to HER2 and HR status
2015
International audience; We aim to describe trends in net survival (NS) and to assess the prognostic factors among women with de novo metastatic breast cancer (MBC) according to human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) and hormone receptor (HR) status. Data on women suffering from de novo MBC and diagnosed from 1998 to 2009 were provided by the Côte-d'Or breast cancer registry. NS was described using the Pohar Perme estimator and prognostic factors were investigated in a generalised linear model. We identified 232 patients (mean age = 64.7). Median NS was 29.2 months, 1- and 5-year NS were 76% and 26% respectively. The survival trend in patients with HER2-positive tumours who did not …
Baseline absolute neutrophil count (ANC), derived neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (dNLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and outcome in non sma…

Nivolumab (N) is a novel therapeutic option in NSCLC, with a significant survival gain compared with Docetaxel (D). However, predictive biomarkers are lacking and no strategies have been adopted to date for optimal patients (pts) selection. The presence of systemic inflammation has been correlated with poor outcome in many cancer types. We aimed to evaluate whether there is a correlation between some indicators of inflammation and response in pts treated with N or D.
Second Cancer Incidence Among Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) Patients: A French Population-Based Study
2014
Abstract Introduction. The risk of developing a second primary cancer (SPC) is increased in patients with CLL. The mechanisms explaining this association could be related to lifestyle, environment, host factors or interactions or other influences. We conducted an epidemiological study based on 10 French registries and evaluated the risk of developing SPC in patients with CLL. Methods. Data from French population-based registries were used to establish a cohort of all patients diagnosed with a first cancer between 1989 and 2004 and followed-up until December 31, 2007. The person-year approach was used to estimate Standardized Incidence Ratios (SIRs) and Excess Absolute Risks (EARs) of metach…
The Assessment of Second Primary Cancers (SPCs) in a Series of Splenic Marginal Zone Lymphoma (SMZL) Patients
2006
The purpose of this study is to estimate the risk of second primary cancer (SPC) in 129 consecutive patients with splenic marginal zone lymphoma (SMZL) diagnosed in three Italian haematological centres. The person-years method deriving as a sum of products of age- and sex- specific rates and of the corresponding time at risk was used. The SPC Standardized Incidence Ratio (SIR) was 2.03 with a 95% confidence interval: [1.05, 3.56] (p < 0.05) and the corresponding Absolute Excess Risk (AER) was 145.8 (per 10000 SMZL patients per year). Our findings evidence a high frequency of additional cancers in patients with SMZL and suggest that the incidence rate of SPCs is significantly different from …
A high-precision Ferrite-induction beam-current monitoring system
1975
Abstract The construction and performance of a Ferrite-induction current monitoring system for charged-particle beams with pulse lengths less than 3 μs and pulse repetition rates up to 1 kHz is described. An absolute accuracy of better than 0.2% has been achieved for average currents between 0.01 and 30 μA and a pulse repetition rate of 100 Hz. Particular emphasis has been placed on a detailed analysis of the design parameters, which limit the ultimate accuracy of the current monitoring system.
Ingegneri militari nella Sicilia degli Asburgo: formazione, competenze e carriera di una figura professionale tra Cinque e Seicento
2015
During the Sixteenth century and the first half of the following one, Sicily played a key role in the strategy of defense of the Spanish Empire from the looming Turkish threat, being an island considered as a baluarte against the Turks. Yet despite this absolute centrality in the military policy of the Spanish monarchy, till now historical research has preferred to provide broader spectrum interpretations at the expense of in-depth studies on individual technicians or overall pictures about the figure of the military engineer. We will present a synoptic view attesting the time period of activity covered by each military technician working for the kingdom of Sicily, within a wider study conc…
Analysis of the level-crossing rate and average duration of fades of WSSUS channels
2017
Studies of the level-crossing rate (LCR) and the average duration of fades (ADF) are so far only devoted to stochastic processes being a function of one independent variable, which is usually time or in some few cases frequency. In this paper, we study the LCR (ADF) of wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) processes in the time-frequency domain. A closed-form solution will be derived for the so-called time-frequency LCR (ADF) of the absolute value of the time-variant transfer function (TVTF) of WSSUS processes. It is shown that the LCR (ADF) is circularly symmetric in the normalized time-frequency domain. The derived time-frequency LCR contains the time LCR and frequency LCR…
Neutrino cosmology and Planck
2014
Relic neutrinos play an important role in the evolution of the Universe, modifying some of the cosmological observables. We summarize the main aspects of cosmological neutrinos and describe how the precision of present cosmological data can be used to learn about neutrino properties. In particular, we discuss how cosmology provides information on the absolute scale of neutrino masses, complementary to beta decay and neutrinoless double-beta decay experiments. We explain why the combination of Planck temperature data with measurements of the baryon acoustic oscillation angular scale provides a strong bound on the sum of neutrino masses, 0.23 eV at the 95% confidence level, while the lensing …
