The ALHAMBRA survey: Discovery of a faint QSO at z = 5.41
2013
[Aims]: We aim to illustrate the potentiality of the Advanced Large, Homogeneous Area, Medium-Band Redshift Astronomical (ALHAMBRA) survey to investigate the high-redshift universe through the detection of quasi stellar objects (QSOs) at redshifts higher than 5. [Methods]: We searched for QSOs candidates at high redshift by fitting an extensive library of spectral energy distributions-including active and non-active galaxy templates, as well as stars-to the photometric database of the ALHAMBRA survey (composed of 20 optical medium-band plus the 3 broad-band JHKs near-infrared filters). [Results]: Our selection over ≈1 square degree of ALHAMBRA data (∼1/4 of the total area covered by the sur…
Effective approach for calculations of absolute stability of proteins using focused dielectric constants
2009
The ability to predict the absolute stability of proteins based on their corresponding sequence and structure is a problem of great fundamental and practical importance. In this work, we report an extensive, refinement and validation of our recent approach (Roca et al., FEBS Lett 2007;581:2065-2071) for predicting absolute values of protein stability DeltaG(fold). This approach employs the semimacroscopic protein dipole Langevin dipole method in its linear response approximation version (PDLD/S-LRA) while using the best fitted values of the dielectric constants epsilon'(p) and epsilon'(eff) for the self energy and charge-charge interactions, respectively. The method is validated on a divers…
Crystal structure of (1S,2R,4S)-1-[(morpholin-4-yl)methyl]-4-(prop-1-en-2-yl)cyclohexane-1,2-diol
2014
Besides intramolecular O—H⋯N hydrogen bonds, the crystal structure displays intermolecular O—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds linking the molecules into undulating layers parallel to the (01) plane.
Perthamides C-F, potent human antipsoriatic cyclopeptides
2011
Abstract Two new cyclopeptides, perthamides E and F were isolated from the polar extracts of the sponge Theonella swinhoei . The new structures, featuring an unprecedented β-amino acid unit (AHMOA), were determined by interpretation of NMR and MS data. The absolute configuration of the AHMOA residue was proposed on the basis of quantum chemical calculation of NMR chemical shifts. Perthamides were proved to inhibit TNF-α and IL-8 release in primary human keratinocytes cells and therefore could represent potentially leads for the treatment of psoriasis.
Transition probabilities for BrII lines emitted from a wall-stabilized cascade arc
2000
Abstract Absolute transition probabilities of the eleven Br II lines were measured in emission. A plasma created in a wall-stabilized arc at atmospheric pressure in the mixture of argon and bromine vapors was used as the excitation source. The relative transition probabilities were converted to an absolute scale based on a lifetime value measured by the electron impact method. The results were compared with experimental data. Discrepancies have been found to be outside the experimental uncertainties.
Radikalpolymerisation von methylmethacrylat im gesamten umsatzbereich. Stationäre und instationäre experimente zur bestimmung von wachstums- und abbr…
1989
Free-radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate in bulk at 0°C over the full range of conversion is reported. Details for stationary and non-stationary experiments are described allowing to measure both kinetically relevant ratios fk/ka and kw/ka, f representing radical efficiency, kw rate constants of propagation and ka rate constant of termination. From these ratios the absolute rate constants kw and ka are available. The photochemical decay of the initiator 1,1′-azodicyclohexanenitrile in connection with the rotating-sector technique and observation of the post-effect after stopping the initiator decay were used. The rate of polymerization and the number- and weight-average molar mass…
Monitoring Stemness in Long-Term hESC Cultures by Real-Time PCR
2009
Human embryonic stem cells (hESC) involve long-term cultures that must remain undifferentiated. The real-time PCR (RT-PCR) technique allows the relative quantification of target genes, including undifferentiation and differentiation markers when referred to a housekeeping control with the addition of a calibrator that serves as an internal control to compare different lots of reactions during the time. The main aspects will include a minimal number of cells to be analyzed, genes to be tested, and how to choose the appropriate calibrator sample and the reference gene. In this chapter, we present how to apply the RT-PCR technique, protocols for its performance, experimental set-up and softwar…
Comparing Recurrent Neural Networks using Principal Component Analysis for Electrical Load Predictions
2021
Electrical demand forecasting is essential for power generation capacity planning and integrating environment-friendly energy sources. In addition, load predictions will help in developing demand-side management in coordination with renewable power generation. Meteorological conditions influence urban area load pattern; therefore, it is vital to include weather parameters for load predictions. Machine Learning algorithms can effectively be used for electrical load predictions considering impact of external parameters. This paper explores and compares the basic Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN); Simple Recurrent Neural Networks (Vanilla RNN), Gated Recurrent Units (GRU), and Long Short-Term Me…
Energy-weighted M1 sum rule with explicit δ degrees of freedom
1985
Abstract The influence of Δ degrees of freedom on the energy-weighted M1 sum rule is investigated and applied to 2 H and 4 He. Using π- and ρ-exchange potentials a reduction of the potential contribution of the order of 50% is obtained. The absolute value of the sum rule is strongly dependent on the short-range behaviour of the nuclear wave function. Furthermore, the contribution of c.m. effects is evaluated and found to be of the order of 5–10%.
A cardiovascular educational intervention for primary care professionals in Spain: positive impact in a quasi-experimental study
2015
Background Routine general practice data collection can help identify patients at risk of cardiovascular disease. Aim To determine whether a training programme for primary care professionals improves the recording of cardiovascular disease risk factors in electronic health records. Design and setting A quasi-experimental study without random assignment of professionals. This was an educational intervention study, consisting of an online-classroom 1-year training programme, and carried out in the Valencian community in Spain. Method The prevalence rates of recording of cardiovascular factors (recorded every 6 months over a 4-year period) were compared between intervention and control group. …
