DETERMINATION OF ABUSED SUBSTANCES IN BIOLOGICAL MATRICES FOR TOXICOLOGICAL AND FORENSIC PURPOSES
2019
During the year 2017, a research work was carried out at the Department of laboratory diagnostics - Toxicology and Biochemistry U.O.S. of ASP 6 in Palermo. The purpose of this investigation was to perform a second level analysis in order to look for abuse drugs. The sample used consisted of 73 serum tubes, which had previously tested positive for screen- ing tests. The result of the analysis of these samples revealed a false positivity in most cases. From the information gathered through the sampling reports, it appears that the age group with several drivers, who are subject to checks by the traffic police, is the one from 17 to 30 years, with 35 samples analysed (48%). It also emerged tha…
Tyttöjen ja poikien väliset erot seksuaalisesta hyväksikäytöstä kertomisessa
2020
Tytöt ja pojat eroavat toisistaan siinä, kuinka he kertovat kokemastaan seksuaalisesta hyväksikäytöstä. This article addresses the frequency of child sexual abuse and its disclosure from the perspective of girls and boys between ages 11 and 17 years. It is based on data from two population-based studies in the Child Victim Surveys 2008 (N = 13,459) and 2013 (N = 11,364), with sexual abuse examined from the perspectives of disclos…
Sophie Hannah’s Hurting Distance as Crime Trauma Fiction
2020
Rodi-Risberg addresses trauma’s generic border-crossing movement through Sophie Hannah’s socially conscious crime thriller Hurting Distance (2007), a trauma narrative of sexual violence and emotional abuse that can be referred to as crime trauma fiction because it incorporates and blends features of both genres. Rodi-Risberg’s main argument is that crime trauma fiction such as Hannah’s novel represents traumatic experience as politically significant by mobilising affect through its themes of violence as social critique. The chapter concludes that contemporary narratives of crime and trauma such as Hannah’s should be seen as an important locus not only for representing traumatic experience, …

Over - And Understatements In Bishop Czaja’s Pastoral Letter To His Diocesans
2020
The Catholic Church is the largest religious faction in Poland, the country being organisationally divided into church dioceses governed by bishops. The letter by the bishop of Opole, Andrzej Czaja may be read in more than one way. One of them is the bona fide (i.e., good faith) one, the reading which assumes his sincerity, presumably the one that had been intended by the author for his diocesans to use. The other is less cooperative and sees some cases of over- and understatements in the text. This can be linguistically studied using the pragmatic theories of H.P. Grice and G.N. Leech. The present paper addresses both these readings as they fit into a global picture. Every lay person is to…

Daphne II - Ve.R.S.O project: a new protocol for the management of sexual assault victims
2012
Daphne II - Ve.R.S.O project: a new protocol for the management of sexual assault victims. Sexual assault is a worldwide problem that has not yet been sufficiently acknowledged, as confirmed by analyses and studies carried out at different levels and in different contexts. Internationally, different approaches are taken to the collection of forensic evi- dence and to the clinical and psychological treatment of alleged victims. Italian law n.96, 1996, foreseeing norms regarding rape and abuse, finally gave signifi- cant relevance to sex crimes. In 2004, the European Commission for Justice Internal Affairs and Social Politics promoted the Daphne II pro- gram to support victims of rape and abu…

Physical Weaponization of a Smartphone by a Third Party
2022
In the literature and media, the treatment of the dangers and exposures posed by smartphones has generally focused on information security or privacy concerns. There have also been reports of fires, explosions, electric shocks, or loss of phone functionality due to faulty design or manufacture. This article provides an overview of acute physical and physiological dangers of smartphones that could be induced or triggered by a third party. It proposes a categorical discussion framework to describe and define the dangers in terms of attack vectors, effects on the smartphone, harms, and potential culprits/instigators. Counterfeit smartphones are themselves a significant potential threat in this…
