Equal access to the top? Measuring selection into finnish academia

In this article, we draw a parallel between equality of opportunity in educational transitions and equality of opportunity in academic careers. In both cases, many methodological problems can be ameliorated by the use of longitudinal rather than cross-sectional data. We illustrate this point by using Finnish full-population register data to follow the educational and academic careers of the 1964–1966 birth cohorts from birth to the present day. We show how the Finnish professoriate is highly selected both in terms of parental background and in terms of gender. Luis Tramoyeres Blasco (1854-1920) fue secretario general de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Carlos, director-conservador del Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia y fundador de la revista Archivo de Arte Valenciano (1915). Sin duda, la ingente actividad y la extensa bibliografía de Tramoyeres, requeriría un trabajo monográfico sobre su figura. A falta del mismo, no podíamos pasar por alto la figura del fundador de nuestra revista en el centenario de su fallecimiento. El homenaje se realiza ilustrando con tres ejemplos, y celebrando, con imágenes inéditas, hasta qué punto están vivas sus investigaciones y la actividad que desarrolló. A New Academic Quality at Work Tool (AQ@workT) to Assess the Quality of Life at Work in the Italian Academic Context

Refereed/Peer-reviewed The present study provides evidence for a valid and reliable tool, the Academic Quality at Work Tool (AQ@workT), to investigate the quality of life at work in academics within the Italian university sector. The AQ@workT was developed by the QoL@Work research team, namely a group of expert academics in the field of work and organizational psychology affiliated with the Italian Association of Psychologists. Quality of life at work in academia: preliminary results for the validation of a tool for Italian university

Purpose: Research on quality of working life in academia appears surprisingly rare in many countries, and in some cases nearly absent. Trying to fill this gap, a team formed by W/O psychologists from 16 Italian universities developed a tool for the assessment of psychosocial risks as well as workers health and wellbeing in universities. The validation of this tool (theoretically based on the Job Demands- Resources model) will be presented in this contribution. Design: A pilot study was conducted on a sample of 120 Italian university researchers/teachers, to make a preliminary test of the psychometric properties of the tool.
