S114. THE EFFICACY OF “URGENT CONSULTATION REQUEST”; PRELIMINARY ANALYSIS OF A REAL-WORLD APP (REMIDCARE) FOR EARLY PSYCHOSIS
2020
Abstract Background Patients are clamming for more personalized and closer clinical attention (Bonet et al. 2018). To this end, we developed RemindCare app. The app conducts daily and weekly assessments and this information is used to prevent relapses, to improve the therapeutic alliance and it is automatically included at the electronic clinical record of the hospital. Moreover, patients can contact clinicians by an “Urgent Consultation Request” (UCR), which is answered by a phone call in a period of 24-48h. This app was introduced in clinical practice in October 2018. Since then, 81 patients met criteria for inclusion and 57/81 (71%) started using the app. The aim of this study is to anal…

RepeatsDB in 2021: improved data and extended classification for protein tandem repeat structures
2020
The RepeatsDB database (URL: https://repeatsdb.org/) provides annotations and classification for protein tandem repeat structures from the Protein Data Bank (PDB). Protein tandem repeats are ubiquitous in all branches of the tree of life. The accumulation of solved repeat structures provides new possibilities for classification and detection, but also increasing the need for annotation. Here we present RepeatsDB 3.0, which addresses these challenges and presents an extended classification scheme. The major conceptual change compared to the previous version is the hierarchical classification combining top levels based solely on structural similarity (Class > Topology > Fold) with two new lev…
Associations between recently diagnosed conditions and hospitalization due to COVID-19 in patients aged 50 years and older– A SHARE-based analysis
2021
Abstract Background Only a few studies have been carried out with a large sample size on the relationship between chronic conditions and hospitalization for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and there is no research examining recently diagnosed conditions. Our purpose was to evaluate this association in a large sample including the older population from Europe and Israel. Method Data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe COVID-19 Survey, a representative survey of individuals aged 50 or older residing in 27 European countries and Israel, were retrieved. Associations between recently diagnosed chronic conditions (ie, conditions detected over the last 3 years) (exposur…
Palatal steatocystoma simplex—a rare oral finding at an even rarer location
2020
ABSTRACT Steatocystoma is a rare, benign cyst that mostly originates from a dermal sebaceous gland. It can be divided into steatocystoma multiplex—with multiple locations—and steatocystoma simplex occurring at a single site. The lesion is mostly located on the skin but can be found on other locations as well. This is the first case report of steatocystoma simplex that was found in the palate of a 37-year-old male. After resection with small safety margins and local wound dressing, no recurrence was detected during a follow-up of 1.5 years.
PlaToLoCo: the first web meta-server for visualization and annotation of low complexity regions in proteins
2020
Abstract Low complexity regions (LCRs) in protein sequences are characterized by a less diverse amino acid composition compared to typically observed sequence diversity. Recent studies have shown that LCRs may co-occur with intrinsically disordered regions, are highly conserved in many organisms, and often play important roles in protein functions and in diseases. In previous decades, several methods have been developed to identify regions with LCRs or amino acid bias, but most of them as stand-alone applications and currently there is no web-based tool which allows users to explore LCRs in protein sequences with additional functional annotations. We aim to fill this gap by providing PlaToL…
Evolutionary processes in the emergence and recent spread of the syphilis agent, Treponema pallidum
2022
Abstract The incidence of syphilis has risen worldwide in the last decade in spite of being an easily treated infection. The causative agent of this sexually transmitted disease is the bacterium Treponema pallidum subspecies pallidum (TPA), very closely related to subsp. pertenue (TPE) and endemicum (TEN), responsible for the human treponematoses yaws and bejel, respectively. Although much focus has been placed on the question of the spatial and temporary origins of TPA, the processes driving the evolution and epidemiological spread of TPA since its divergence from TPE and TEN are not well understood. Here, we investigate the effects of recombination and selection as forces of genetic diver…
IntelliPy: a GUI for analyzing IntelliCage data
2021
Abstract Summary The IntelliCage systems offer the possibility to conduct long-term behavioral experiments on mice in social groups without human intervention. Although this setup provides new findings, only about 150 studies with the IntelliCage system have been published in the last two decades, which is also caused by the challenging problems of processing and handling the large and heterogeneous amounts of captured data. This application note introduces the Python-GUI IntelliPy, especially designed for users not very experienced in using programming languages. IntelliPy allows users to quickly analyze the IntelliCage output in a user-friendly way, thus making the systems more accessible…
LipiDisease: associate lipids to diseases using literature mining
2021
Abstract Summary Lipids exhibit an essential role in cellular assembly and signaling. Dysregulation of these functions has been linked with many complications including obesity, diabetes, metabolic disorders, cancer and more. Investigating lipid profiles in such conditions can provide insights into cellular functions and possible interventions. Hence the field of lipidomics is expanding in recent years. Even though the role of individual lipids in diseases has been investigated, there is no resource to perform disease enrichment analysis considering the cumulative association of a lipid set. To address this, we have implemented the LipiDisease web server. The tool analyzes millions of recor…
Robots as intelligent assistants to face COVID-19 pandemic
2020
AbstractMotivationThe epidemic at the beginning of this year, due to a new virus in the coronavirus family, is causing many deaths and is bringing the world economy to its knees. Moreover, situations of this kind are historically cyclical. The symptoms and treatment of infected patients are, for better or worse even for new viruses, always the same: more or less severe flu symptoms, isolation and full hygiene. By now man has learned how to manage epidemic situations, but deaths and negative effects continue to occur. What about technology? What effect has the actual technological progress we have achieved? In this review, we wonder about the role of robotics in the fight against COVID. It p…
