Radio polarization maps of shell-type SNRs II. Sedov models with evolution of turbulent magnetic field

Polarized radio emission has been mapped with great detail in several Galactic supernova remnants (SNRs), but has not yet been exploited to the extent it deserves. We have developed a method to model maps of the Stokes parameters for shell-like SNRs during their Sedov evolution phase. At first, 3-dimensional structure of a SNR has been computed, by modeling the distribution of the magnetohydrodynamic parameters and of the accelerated particles. The generation and dissipation of the turbulent component of magnetic field everywhere in SNR are also considered taking into account its interaction with accelerated particles. Study design: Cross-sectional validation study. Objectives: The goals of this study were to validate the use of accelerometers by means of multiple linear models (MLMs) to estimate the O2 consumption (VO2) in paraplegic persons and to determine the best placement for accelerometers on the human body. Setting: Non-hospitalized paraplegics’ community. Methods: Twenty participants (age=40.03 years, weight=75.8 kg and height=1.76 m) completed sedentary, propulsion and housework activities for 10 min each. Acceleration of short and long DNA read mapping without loss of accuracy using suffix array

2014

HPG Aligner applies suffix arrays for DNA read mapping. This implementation produces a highly sensitive and extremely fast mapping of DNA reads that scales up almost linearly with read length. The approach presented here is faster (over 20 for long reads) and more sensitive (over 98% in a wide range of read lengths) than the current state-of-the-art mappers. HPG Aligner is not only an optimal alternative for current sequencers but also the only solution available to cope with longer reads and growing throughputs produced by forthcoming sequencing technologies.

Stochastic seismic analysis of multidegree of freedom systems

Abstract A unconditionally stable step-by-step procedure is proposed to evaluate the mean square response of a linear system with several degrees of freedom, subjected to earthquake ground motion. A non-stationary modulated random process, obtained as the product of a deterministic time envelope function and a stationary noise, is used to simulate earthquake acceleration. The accuracy of the procedure and its extension to nonlinear systems are discussed. Numerical examples are given for a hysteretic system, a duffing oscillator and a linear system with several degrees of freedom.
