Alternative Financing of SMEs in the Baltic States: Myth or Reality?
2014
Abstract Alternative financing for small business can help companies whose owners can’t get traditional financing resources as small business loans, overdrafts and personal credit cards. New companies typically seek alternative financing when their companies have not been in business long enough to establish credit profiles with financial institutions. Access to alternative financing together with traditional financial resources represents one of the most significant challenges for new SMEs not only in the Baltic States but all over the world. Ensurance of new SMEs creation, existence and growth asks understanding of SMEs’ financing needs and alternative funding is one of them. Alternative …
Access to Finance: Baltic Financial Markets
2014
Abstract Access to finance is considered one of the main obstacles to successful financial market development. Access to finance was second-ranked most pressing problem faced by companies in the Euro Area and one of the main barriers to company's innovation capacity. The study results highlight the need to recognize that countries require sound and well-functioning financial markets. Only in this case financial markets can provide much needed sources of investments such as sound banking loans, properly regulated securities exchanges, venture capital, and other resources.
Micro and Small Businesses Access to Finance and Financial Literacy of their Owners: Evidence from Latvia, Estonia and Georgia
2021
Lack of financial literacy of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) owners/managers is often mentioned among the reasons of their financial exclusion. The main objective of the article is to verify whether the targeted group - MSMEs - access to finance and financial literacy of their owners/managers are closely linked in observed countries – Latvia, Estonia and Georgia. As a supportive objective, analysis of the relationship between financial literacy of MSMEs owners, adult literacy and the level of general education in a country is also analyzed. The research is exploratory in its nature, based on intensive literature review, analysis of the countries’ statistics and the case s…
The importance of correct implants positioning and masticatory load direction on a fixed prosthesis
2018
Background Through the biomechanical study of dental implants, it is possible to understand the dissipation effects of masticatory loads in different situations and prevent the longevity of osseointegration. Aims: To evaluate the microstrains generated around external hexagon implants, using axial and non-axial loads in a fixed four-element prosthesis with straight implants and implants inclined at 17°. Material and Methods Three implants were modeled using CAD software following the manufacturer's measurements. Then, implants were duplicated and divided into two groups: one with straight implants and respective abutments, and the other with angled implants at 17° and respective abutments. …
A Low Cost Solution for 2D Memory Access
2006
Many of the new coding tools in the H.264/AVC video coding standard are based on 2D processing resulting in row-wise and column-wise memory accesses starting from arbitrary memory locations. This paper proposes a low cost solution for efficient realization of these 2D block memory accesses on sub-word parallel processors. It is based on the use of simple register-based data permutation networks placed between the processor and memory. The data rearrangement capabilities of the networks can further be extended with more complex control schemes. With the proposed control schemes, the networks enable row and column accesses from arbitrary memory locations for blocks of data while maintaining f…
UML/OCL-based modeling of work-based access control policies for collaborative healthcare systems
2016
A work-based access control (WBAC) model is proposed by introducing the team role concept and modifying the user-role assignment model from a previous work. The main goals of WBAC are flexibility, easy manageability, security, as well as suitability to support cooperative work of dynamic teams in healthcare environments. One of the major challenges of WBAC regards authorization constraints in terms of organizational policies. In this article, we show how Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Object Constraints Language (OCL) are utilized to design and analyze the authorization constraints of WBAC in cooperative engagements with complex scenarios in the collaborative healthcare domain. We also…
CADWAN – A Control Architecture for Dense Wi-Fi Access Networks
2018
The growing demands of ubiquitous computing are leading towards the densification of wireless access networks. The challenges of high density deployments can be addressed by network- wide centralized control. To this end we propose CADWAN – a Control Architecture for efficient management of Dense Wi-Fi Access Networks. Its main advantages are: flexibility (it supports software- defined wireless networking), scalability (it uses a three-tier optimization framework), and extendibility (it exploits a unified control interface with support for heterogeneous devices). Furthermore, CADWAN is complementary to ongoing developments in IEEE 802.11, especially 802.11ax.
2014
Abstract:STUDY ON LANGUAGE AND EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS OF A CASE OF FRAGILE X SYNDROMEThe main objective of this study is to compare a subject with a clinical diagnosis of Fragile X Syndrome with other disorders (ADHD, Mental Retardation and ASD) in executive functioning and language. The language variables analyzed are lexical knowledge, lexical access, free induced verbal fluency, comprehension instruction and verbal reasoning. On the other hand, the executive functioning variables evaluated are visual and auditory memory, visual and auditory attention, and visual and auditory planning and inhibition. After evaluation, it is checked that Fragile X Syndrome resembles to Mental Retardation and …
Exploiting EDCA for Feedback Channels in Hybrid VLC/WiFi Architectures
2021
In this paper, we consider integrating VLC and WiFi technologies in a scenario in which Light-Emitting-Diodes (LEDs), acting as network access points (APs) for ultra-dense Internet of Things applications, are deployed into an indoor lighting infrastructure. In such a scenario, RF-links can be exploited for complementing VLC-links in dealing with mobility and bidirectional communications, which can be problematic due to the limited coverage areas and self-generated interference of VLC APs. In particular, we consider the possibility of supporting a technology-based duplexing scheme, in which downlink and uplink transmissions are performed by means, respectively, of VLC and WiFi interfaces int…
