False positive rate of an arrayCGH platform for single-cell preimplantation genetic screening and subsequent clinical application on day-3
2013
In this work, false positive rate of an arrayCGH platform for its use in day-3 single-blastomere analysis was calculated. For this purpose, 38 embryos diagnosed as abnormal on day-3 by FISH were re-biopsied on day-4. Single-cell day-4 arrayCGH diagnosis was then performed. A successful amplification was obtained in 97.4 % (37/38) of the day-4 cells analysed by arrayCGH. Day-3 FISH and day-4 arrayCGH diagnosis were concordant in 35/37 cases. The two discordant embryos were spread and all the cells from each embryo were re-analysed by FISH on day 5. The same error rate (2.7 %) for day-3 FISH and day-4 arrayCGH was obtained when comparing day-5 FISH re-analysis. After this pre-clinical phase, …
Two Novel Deletions (Array CGH Findings) in Pigment Dispersion Syndrome
2007
Purpose: We report the first male with pigment dispersion syndrome and a balanced translocation t(10;15)(p11.1;q11.1). Methods: Cytogenetic analyses using Giemsa banding and FISH methods, and array CGH were performed. Results: Array CGH analyses did not show altered DNA sequences in the breakpoints of the translocation, but revealed two novel deletions in 2q22.1 and 18q22.1. Conclusion: We suppose that the coexistence of t(10;15) and pigment dispersion syndrome in our patient is a coincidence. The deletion in 2q22.1, where the gene LRP1B has been located, may play a major role in the dysembryogenesis of the eye and cause the disorder.
Breastfeeding and experience with variety early in weaning increase infants' acceptance of new foods for up to two months.
2008
International audience; BACKGROUND & AIMS: Previous studies showed that (1) breastfeeding and (2) higher food variety early in weaning can increase acceptance of new foods for the next few days. Here we measure, in two European regions, effects of breast or formula feeding and experience with different levels of vegetable variety early in weaning on new food acceptance during two months following the start of weaning. METHODS: Breast- or formula-fed infants received their first vegetable (carrot pur? and, over the next 9 days, either carrots every day; 3 vegetables changed every 3 days; or 3 vegetables changed daily. On the 12th and 23rd days they received new vegetable pur?, zucchini-tomat…
Estimation of daily intake of polychlorinated biphenyls not similar to dioxins (NDL-PCB) from fish consumption in Spain in different population groups
2018
AbstractObjectiveTo assess the daily intake of polychlorinated biphenyls not similar to dioxins (NDL-PCB) derived from fish consumption in Spain and compare it with tolerance limits in order to establish a safe threshold so that the nutritional benefits derived from fish consumption may be optimized.DesignAnalysis of NDL-PCB in fish samples and ecological study of the estimated intake of NDL-PCB from fish consumption in different Spanish population groups.SubjectsNational representative sample of the Spanish population.ResultsThe intake of NDL-PCB was estimated in two different scenarios: upper bound (UB) and lower bound (LB). Estimating intake using the average concentration of NDL-PCB fou…
Application of pulsed electric fields in meat and fish processing industries: An overview.
2019
The market demand for new meat and fish products with enhanced physicochemical and nutritional properties attracted the interest of the food industry and academia to investigate innovative processing approaches such as pulsed electric fields (PEF). PEF is an emerging technology based on the application of electrical currents between two electrodes thus inducing electroporation phenomena and enabling a non-invasive modification of the tissues' structure. This review provides an overview of the current knowledge on the use of PEF processing in meat and fish to enhance the physicochemical and nutritional changes, as a preservation method, as well as for improving the extraction of high added-v…
The Coexistence of Three Species of Daphnia in the Klostersee: iii. The Simulation Model Coda
1991
The population dynamics of three coexisting Daphnia species are described by means of a discrete event simulation model. The model is formulated in the algorithmic language SIMULA which allows very convenient object-oriented programming. Different compartments of a lake are simulated at different levels of integration, each represented by a PROCESS CLASS in SIMULA: The properties of the lake are deposited in a set of meteorological data which were measured in the field. Fish are simulated as a population with properties which are derived from field observations and Daphnia are represented as individuals. The model shows that hypotheses about the stabilizing mechanisms (seasonal change of en…

Efisiensi Biaya Pakan Melalui Pemanfaatan Rayap Pohon (Coptotermes sp.) dalam Pembesaran Ikan Mas Komet(Carassius auratus auratus)
2017
Chemical characterization of organic residues on Late Roman amphorae from shipwrecks off the coast of Marsala (Trapani, Italy)
2021
Abstract Organic residues were extracted from thirty-three different types of Roman and Late Antique amphorae retrieved from underwater contexts in the custody of the Archaeological Museum “Baglio Anselmi” of Marsala in Sicily. The samples were analysed using GC-MS and 1H NMR, finding biomarkers of plant oils (including saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, alcohols and alkanes present in plant waxes) were identified in seven samples. The biomarkers for Pinaceae spp., used for making pitch, were identified in one sample. The results obtained shed light on the function of different types of North African amphorae, traditionally interpreted as containers for olive oil, wine and fish sauce, p…
