CD59 (homologous restriction factor 20), a plasma membrane protein that protects against complement C5b-9 attack, in human atherosclerotic lesions

Blood cells express a cell membrane protein, termed homologous restriction factor 20 (HRF20) and identical to CD59, that can inhibit complement C5b-9 insertion into their membranes. In this report, we investigated by immunohistochemistry whether CD59 was present on cells in human atherosclerotic lesions since membranous C5b-9(m) has been found in lesions. Using a monoclonal anti-CD59 antibody, a cellular CD59 staining pattern was apparent in nearly all lesion specimens. Abstract Objectives. Cell lines are valuable in vitro models for clinical and basic research. Most ovarian cancer cell lines described are serous cystadenocarcinomas or poorly differentiated adenocarcinomas. The establishment of ovarian cancer cell lines with rare histologic differentiation is especially of interest. Nemaline myopathy with intranuclear rods--intranuclear rod myopathy.

Among the different nosological forms of nemaline/rod myopathy, one morphological variant is marked by intranuclear rods in addition to sarcoplasmic rods. Such patients fall into two categories: firstly, adults and secondly, young infants suffering from the severe form. Intranuclear rods indicate unfavourable prognosis. Recently, intranuclear rods without sarcoplasmic rods have also been encountered. Intranuclear rods, largely solitary, are often found large in size with the ultrastructural lattice pattern of sarcoplasmic rods and Z-disks. They contain alpha-actinin and actin. Ductal infiltrating carcinoma (d.i.c.) of human breast is a highly invasive neoplasm characterized by enhanced deposition of collagen. Paradoxically, enhanced collagen deposition is not correlated with inhibition of the migration of tumour cells into the host tissue. d.i.c. is characterized by the reappearance of ‘embryonic’ type I-trimer collagen and an increase in type V collagen content in the matrix. Proteins participating to the post-transcriptional regulation of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit IV via elements located in the 3′UTR

Abstract In developing rat brain cytochrome c oxidase subunit IV (COXIV) expression is also regulated at post-transcriptional level and two 3′UTR-COXIV RNA-binding factors have been identified. Here, we report the enrichment and identification of the factors from just born rat brains by affinity chromatography of biotinylated 3′UTR-COXIV RNA–protein complexes on streptavidin-conjugated paramagnetic particles. We successfully isolated two main proteins of about 86 and 42 kDa, whose sequences were highly attributable to Hsp90 and Actin. New protein clustering of breast cancer tissue proteomics using actin content as a cellularity indicator

In the present study, we report the comparative proteome profiles of proteins solubilized from 37 breast cancer surgical tissues, normalized for the actin content. Blood-derived proteins were excluded from the analysis. Among the tumor-derived protein spots, a large proportion (39%) was found present in all patients. These included several glycolytic enzymes, detox and heat shock proteins, members of annexin and S100 protein families, cathepsin D, and two “rare” proteins, DDAH2 involved in the angiogenesis control, and the oncogene PARK7. SIK2 orchestrates actin-dependent host response upon Salmonella infection

Significance Through conducting quantitative proteomics upon Salmonella infection, we identified a SIK2 signaling network, implementing the kinase into a so far concealed biological function. Our data exposed SIK2 as a central orchestrator of an actin regulatory network, coordinating the stability of Salmonella-containing vacuole (SCV) and cellular actin assembly, in order to limit the acute phase of the infection. Most strikingly, SIK2 is not exclusively acting locally on actin assembly associated with the SCV but impacts the actin cytoskeleton architecture in its entirety upon Salmonella infection.
