Mapping routine measles vaccination in low- and middle-income countries
2021
The safe, highly effective measles vaccine has been recommended globally since 1974, yet in 2017 there were more than 17 million cases of measles and 83,400 deaths in children under 5 years old, and more than 99% of both occurred in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)1–4. Globally comparable, annual, local estimates of routine first-dose measles-containing vaccine (MCV1) coverage are critical for understanding geographically precise immunity patterns, progress towards the targets of the Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP), and high-risk areas amid disruptions to vaccination programmes caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)5–8. Here we generated annual estimates of routine childhoo…

GRP-089 Implementation of a “Medication Safety” Curriculum as Part of the Continuing Education Programme For Pharmacists
2013
Background The ‘action plan for the improvement of medication safety’ issued by the German ministry of health demands a culture of safety awareness. To achieve this goal, an emphasis on medication safety should be placed in the education of health care professionals. In this context the German Society of Hospital Pharmacists (ADKA) has developed a curriculum on medication safety. Purpose A workshop has been developed to improve the awareness of health care professionals regarding medication errors and the risks involved. The tools allow the pharmacist to perform a self-contained failure analysis as a basis for a goal-oriented prevention strategy. Materials and Methods The curriculum consist…
Intimate Partner Violence in Finland
2021
High prevalence of intimate partner violence against women and high levels of gender equality in Finland yield to what has been called the “Nordic paradox.” It has been argued that the high level of gender equality has caused the need for IPV interventions and especially the gendered perspective to be overlooked. However, there has been recent and ongoing development in IPV intervention and prevention in regard to perpetrator programs, couple therapy, and programs to address post-separation stalking. Training programs for social and healthcare professionals and the police have been developed, as well as for teachers and other professionals at school. We hope the current government’s new act…
RPB1 as a marker gene to analyze communities of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Glomeromycota)
2014
The influence of agricultural practice on the diversity of Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF, Glomeromycota) continues to be an important research question as these mutualistic symbionts are known to improve plant growth and soil quality. To this day, studies of community diversity in AMF have exclusively been based on nuclear ribosomal gene regions, such as the small and large subunits and the ITS region. In the Glomeromycota, these regions show high intra-organism polymorphism, which can seriously complicate interpretation of diversity data. We chose the rpb1 gene as an alternative marker as this putative single-copy gene has been shown to be monomorphic within fungal isolates but shows a…
Predicting physical activity change in cancer survivors: an application of the Health Action Process Approach.
2022
Purpose Previous research has not examined the utility of the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) to predict physical activity (PA) change in cancer survivors. The aim of the study was to investigate the efficacy of a HAPA-based model in predicting temporal change in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) in cancer survivors. Methods Participants enrolled in the Wearable Activity Technology and Action Planning (WATAAP) trial completed validated questionnaires (n = 64) to assess HAPA constructs (action and maintenance self-efficacy, outcome expectancies, action planning, risk perceptions, and intention) and wore an ActiGraph to measure PA at baseline, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks later. D…
