BACKGROUND: Nitric oxide (NO) production by both coronary endothelial cells and cardiomyocytes is thought to play a significant role in myocardial pathophysiology following ischemia/reperfusion (I/R). METHODS: In thirteen pigs subjected to 1 hour cardioplegic arrest (CA) on CPB, left ventricular (LV) biopsies were collected prior to CPB (baseline), at 60 min CPA, at 15 and 30 min reperfusion on CPB, and at 120 min post CPB. CD34+ progenitor to endothelial cell transition in post-pneumonectomy angiogenesis.

In many species, pneumonectomy triggers compensatory lung growth that results in an increase not only in lung volume, but also in alveolar number. Whether the associated alveolar angiogenesis involves the contribution of blood-borne progenitor cells is unknown. To identify and characterize blood-borne progenitor cells contributing to lung growth after pneumonectomy in mice, we studied wild-type and wild-type/green fluorescence protein (GFP) parabiotic mice after left pneumonectomy. Within 21 days of pneumonectomy, a 3.2-fold increase occurred in the number of lung endothelial cells. In a recently performed survey with 4000 randomly selected persons, 68 (7.2 %) of 948 respondents reported intolerance and/or allergy-like symptoms to wine. Background Extracorporeal circulation used in cardiopulmonary bypass and hemodialysis is often associated with severe hypotension, which is an important predictor for mortality and morbidity. Effects of heavy barbell hip thrust vs back squat on subsequent sprint performance in rugby players

The objective of this research was to compare the effect of Post-Activation Performance Enhancement (PAPE) exerted on the back squat (BS) versus the barbell hip thrust (HT) on the sprint performance (5- and 10-m). 17 male amateur rugby players participated in the study (age 22.14 ± 2.52 years; body mass 81.06 ± 9.6 kg; height 1.78 ± 0.05 m). All participants performed a dynamic maximum strength test (3RM) in BS and HT at maximum speed. Degrees of freedom effect on fragmentation in tandem mass spectrometry of singly charged supramolecular aggregates of sodium sulfonates

The characteristic collision energy (CCE) to obtain 50% fragmentation of positively and negatively single charged non-covalent clusters has been measured. CCE was found to increase linearly with the degrees of freedom (DoF) of the precursor ion, analogously to that observed for synthetic polymers. This suggests that fragmentation behavior (e.g. energy randomization) in covalent molecules and clusters are similar. Analysis of the slope of CCE with molecular size (DoF) indicates that activation energy of fragmentation of these clusters (loss of a monomer unit) is similar to that of the lowest energy fragmentation of protonated leucine-enkephalin. A great deal of work has been done when the signal function is a sigmoid function. However, a signal function of McCulloch-Pitts nonlinearity described with a piecewise constant function is also useful in the modelling of neural networks. Structural transformations in amorphous selenium as studied by the differential thermal analysis and exoelectron emission technique

The parameters (temperature, activation energy) of the surface and volume glass transition (retrification process) in amorphous selenium produced by rapid quenching of the liquid phase have been determined using the EEE and DTA techniques. EEE is a surface effect connected with structural transformations in the surface layer whereas the DTA measurements give the information about the transformations occurring in the volume of the sample.
