Contrast-enhanced CT is not routinely indicated in uncomplicated urinary infections, but it may be necessary in patients with specific risk factors (i.e., diabetes, immunocompromised patients, history of stones, or prior renal surgery) or in patients not responding to antibiotics and in detecting complications of pyelonephritis. Reliability of wastewater analysis for monitoring COVID-19 incidence revealed by a long-term follow-up study

Background Wastewater-based epidemiology has been used for monitoring human activities and waterborne pathogens. Although wastewaters can also be used for tracking SARS-CoV-2 at the population level, the reliability of this approach remains to be established, especially for early warning of outbreaks. Methods We collected 377 samples from different treatment plants processing wastewaters of >1 million inhabitants in Valencia, Spain, between April 2020 and March 2021. Abstract Background We describe, step by step, a modified, less invasive, diamond-shaped mini-craniotomy that optimizes dural opening and can be performed in elderly patients affected by acute subdural or intracerebral hematomas, in therapy with antiplatelets or anticoagulants. Cystatin C levels are decreased in acute myocardial infarction

Background: Cystatin C is the most abundant protease inhibitor in the plasma. Low plasma levels have been found in patients with aortic aneurysms and they seem correlated with the extension of the aortic lesions in early aneurysms detected by ultrasonography. Methods: In this study, plasma levels of cystatin C have been investigated in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), unstable angina and controls. Transfusion-related acute lung injury after intravenous immunoglobulin treatment in a lung transplant recipient

Three weeks after single-lung transplantation for pulmonary fibrosis, a patient with high serum levels of de novo donor-specific antibodies received high-dose intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) infusion (scheduled dose: 2 g/kg on 2 days) to prevent antibody-mediated rejection. Within the first hours after completion of infusions, he experienced acute lung injury involving the transplanted lung.
