Mechanical and Thermal Stability of Adhesive Membranes with Nonzero Bending Rigidity

2010

Membranes at a microscopic scale are affected by thermal fluctuations and self-adhesion due to van der Waals forces. Methods to prepare membranes of even molecular scale, e.g., graphene, have recently been developed, and the question of their mechanical and thermal stability is of crucial importance. To this end we modeled microscopic membranes with an attractive interaction and applied Langevin dynamics. Their behavior was also analyzed under external loading. Even though these membranes folded during isotropic compression as a result of energy minimization, the process at high confinement was similar to crumpling of macroscopic nonadhesive sheets. The main difference appeared when the com…

Evaluation of surface roughness of enamel after various bonding and clean-up procedures on enamel bonded with three different bonding agents : an in-…

2016

Background The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the enamel surface roughness before bonding and after debonding, to find correlation between the adhesive remnant index and its effect on enamel surface roughness and to evaluate which clean-up method is most efficient to provide a smoother enamel surface. Material and methods 135 premolars were divided into 3 groups containing 45 premolars in each group. Group I was bonded by using moisture insensitive primer, Group II by using conventional orthodontic adhesive and Group III by using self-etching primer. Each group was divided into 3 sub-groups on the basis of type of clean-up method applied i,e scaling followed by polishing, …

Effect of curing time on the performances of hybrid/mixed joints

2013

Abstract The aim of this work is the study of a mixed method used for the joining of aluminum alloys with glass reinforced polymer’s substrates (in the next GFRP). In particular, the technique of self-piercing riveting (in the next SPR) was applied on a co-cured joint in order to evaluate the influence of the time of inserting the rivet on the mechanical behavior of the mixed joints. Three different joints were realized: adhesive by co-curing technique, mechanical by self piercing riveting (in the next SPR) and a mixed one in which the joining techniques (i.e. adhesive and mechanical) were combined. In particular, to determine the optimum time to insert the rivet, three different times from…

Frictional behaviour of oxygen diffusion hardened titanium in dry sliding against Co–28Cr–5W–4Fe–3Ni–1Si cobalt alloy

2004

Abstract The results of conformal pin-on-disc tribological tests of a hard layer of the solid solution of oxygen in α-titanium sliding against a Co–28Cr–5W–4Fe–3Ni–1Si cobalt alloy counterspecimen are presented. The α-Ti(O) layer was diffusely produced over 2–8 h of oxidising in the superficial zone of a technical quality titanium specimen. The friction and wear responses of the system were recorded and the wear mechanisms were studied. Investigations of the material structure and chemical constitution in micro-areas of the titanium specimen, cobalt alloy counterspecimen and wear debris formed in dry sliding were performed with a Philips XL20 microscope equipped with an EDAX analyser. Moisture Effects on Patch Bonded Composite Repairs

2016

The present work investigated the effects of moisture absorption on the residual tensile strength of unnotched, notched and double-patch repaired carbon/epoxy composites. Patches were bonded to the parent plate using Araldite2015 adhesive. Specimens were aged in demineralised water at 70°C and tested at moisture content of 0% (dry), 3%, 6% and 7%. Results showed that upon ageing, a maximum of 11% and 17% of strength reduction was found in unnotched and repaired specimens, respectively. On the contrary, a maximum of 15% increment in strength was observed in notched specimens. In addition, good fits to the experimental data were found using the proposed residual strength model, with the maxim…

Bond strength of dental nanocomposites repaired with a bulkfill composite

2017

Background The aim of this study was to analyze the bond strength of aged resin based nanocomposites repaired with the same and bulk fill composites. Material and Methods Seventy-two disc shaped resin composites consisted of three different nanocomposite resins (Filtek Ultimate/FU, Herculite XRV Ultra/HXRV, and Reflectys/R) were produced. After storing the samples for 8 weeks in distilled water, each material was combined with the same material or the bulk-fill composite resin system (Filtek Ultimate+Filtek Ultimate/Group-1; Filtek Ultimate+Tetric BF/Group-2; Herculite XRV+Herculite XRV/Group-3; Herculite XRV+Tetric BF/ Group-4; Reflectys+Reflectys/Group 5; Reflectys+Tetric BF/Group-6), for…

Extra tension at electrode-nanowire adhesive contacts in nano-electromechanical devices

2017

Abstract We report a strong tangential component of the reaction force at electrode to nanowire adhesive contact which was previously established using electrostatic attraction. The reaction force tangential component absolute value was found to be comparable to or even bigger than the corresponding normal component. This effect is important for understanding of the mechanics of nano-electromechanical devices. Both the experiment and the corresponding theory are presented. Fitting of the obtained analytical solutions to experimental data was used to measure the reaction force acting at the contact for several nanowire-electrode configurations.

Effect of glycine pretreatment on the shear bond strength of a CAD/CAM resin nano ceramic material to dentin

2016

Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of glycine pretreatment on the shear bond strength between dentin and a CAD/CAM resin nano ceramic material (LavaTM Ultimate Restorative), bonded together with adhesive cements using three different luting protocols (total-etch; self-etch; self-adhesive). Material and Methods: Thirty cylinders were milled from resin nano ceramic blocks with CAD/CAM technology. The cylinders were subsequently cemented to the exposed dentin of 30 bovine permanent mandibular incisors. The specimens were assigned into six groups of five teeth each according to luting procedure and dentin pretreatment. In the first two groups (A1, A2) 10 cylinders …

Influence of adhesive systems on microtensile bond strength of resin-based endodontic sealers to the root dentin

2014

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the microtensile bond strength to root dentin of AH PlusTM and EndoREZ® with Clearfil Liner Bond 2V and Optibond SoloTM Plus adhesive systems. Study Design: The coronal and middle thirds of six single rooted bovine teeth was split longitudinally in a mesio- distal direction. The two halves were joined with AH Plus or EndoREZ, with and without the use of Clearfil Li - ner Bond 2V and Optibond SoloTM Plus adhesive systems. Build-ups were vertically sectioned into quadrangular (?1mmx1mm) compound bars and subjected to tensile tests at a constant crosshead speed (1 mm/min) until debon - ding. Results: Optibond ® Solo PlusTM in combination with A…

In-situ nano-silica deposition and air-abrasion with Bioglass 45S5 or aluminium oxide: Effects on methacrylate bonding to yttria-tetragonal zirconia …

2015

This study aimed at assessing the bonding performance after water storage (24 h/6-month) of a methacrylate-based cement applied onto Yttria-Tetragonal Zirconia Polycrystal(Y-TZP) pre-treated using an innovative in-situ silica nanoparticle deposition method and/or air-abrasion with Bioglass 45S5 (BAG) or aluminium oxide (AlO). Pre-sintered blocks of Y-TZP were coated with nano-silica using an experimental in-situ deposition method or used as received (control/silica-free). Air-abrasion was performed with AlO or BAG particles both on silica-coated and control Y-TZP specimens. All the specimens were then analysed using SEM– EDX. Further specimens were treated as described above, bonded using a…
