Increased electron donor and electron acceptor characters enhance the adhesion between oil droplets and cells of Yarrowia lipolytica as evaluated by …

2003

International audience; The adhesion of methyl ricinoleate droplets to cells of the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica was investigated. A new cytometric method, relying on the double staining of fatty globules with Nile Red and of cells with Calcofluor, enabled us to quantify methyl ricinoleate droplet adhesion to cells precultured on a hydrophilic or on a hydrophobic carbon source. In this last case, droplet adsorption was enhanced and a MATS (microbial adhesion to solvents) test revealed that this increase was due to Lewis acid-base interactions and not to an increase in the hydrophobic properties of the cell surface. These preliminary results demonstrate that the developed cytometric method is p…

MULTI AXIAL TESTING OF ADHESIVELY BONDEDJOINTS OF FIBER REINFORCED THERMOPLASTIC POLYMERS

2015

International audience; In order to predict the mechanical behaviorof adhesively bonded joints, it is necessary to develop robust numerical models. This robustness is only reached if an extensive experimental database with tensile, shear and complex combined peel and shear loads can beestablished. The purpose of this study is to present a multi axialdevice for testing adhesively bonded joints, using KS2-type specimens traditionally utilized for spot-weld characterization. The tests were conducted on a glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic polymer(PA6-6) composite adhesively bonded with a flexible polyurethane adhesive. This adhesive/substrate combination allowsshort process times and good per…

Development of Removable Visual Impact Indicator or Polymer Composite Materials

2021

The prototype of removable visual impact indicator for thermoset polymer composite materials is developed, and its characteristics are experimentally determined. The indicator is a fabric tape glued by epoxy to the surface of the polymer composite. The tape is impregnated with a composition that provides a visual response at the place of an impact on the composite surface. Ball-drop tests demonstrated the increase of the magnitude of the visual response with the impact energy at different substrate hardnesses. The shelf-life and mode of the tape storage until commissioning are determined. Peel tests showed the ability to remove a used indicator without damaging the surface of the composite.

Pull-off adhesion of hybrid glass-steel adhesive joints in salt fog environment

2016

The aim of this paper was to evaluate the durability behaviour of glass/steel adhesive joints exposed to salt fog environmental conditions for ten weeks, according to ASTM B117 standard. To this scope, pull-off mechanical tests were carried out in order to evaluate the performances evolution and damage phenomena of the adhesive joints during the ageing exposition. Two different types of adhesives were compared (i.e. epoxy and polyurethane ones). Moreover, the effects of the glass surface condition and the presence of a basalt mat layer within the adhesive thickness were evaluated. The mechanical performances were related with the occurred failure mechanisms. Epoxy-based joints showed higher…

Determining the effects of Eugenol on the bond strength of resin-based restorative materials to dentin : a meta-analysis of the literature

2020

Este artículo se encuentra disponible en la siguiente URL: https://www.mdpi.com/2076-3417/10/3/1070/htm Este artículo pertenece al número especial " Permanent and long-term biodegradable biomaterials". The aim of this study was to determine whether the residual presence of eugenol in coronal dentin may compromise the bond strength of resin-based restorative materials. A search was performed on MEDLINE/Pubmed, Scopus, and by hand search for relevant papers. No restriction was applied for language and publication date. The studies selected for analysis tested specimens with reduced size (micro-shear bond strength ( SBS) and micro-tensile bond strength ( TBS)) of adhesive systems and resin-bas…

Influence of anodizing surface treatment on the aging behavior in salt-fog environment of aluminum alloy 5083 to fiber reinforced composites adhesive…

2021

The present work aims to evaluate how an innovative and eco-friendly anodizing process with tartaric-sulfuric acid (TSA) bath and a pore widening in an aqueous solution of NaOH 0.1 M can improve the durability in marine environment of co-cured adhesive joints between an aluminum alloy (AA 5083) and fiber (i.e., glass or basalt)-reinforced composite substrates. The aging was carried out by exposing samples to salt-fog spray conditions (5 wt.% NaCl) for 30, 60 and 90 days in a climate chamber, in accordance with ASTM B117. In order to get further insights on the aging behaviour of bonded joints, neat matrix was also exposed to the same environment for 60 days. Quasi-static mechanical tests an…

In vitro enterococcus faecalis biofilm formation on five adhesive systems

2011

Objective: To determine the E. faecalis biofilm formation on the surface of five adhesive systems (AS) and its relationship with roughness. Study Design: The formation of E. faecalis biofilms was tested on the surface of four dual-cure AS: AdheSE DC, Clearfil DC Bond, Futurabond DC and Excite DSC and one light-cure antimicrobial AS, Clearfil Protect Bond, after 24 hours of incubation, using the MBEC high-throughput device. Results: E. faecalis biofilms grew on all the adhesives. The least growth of biofilm was on Excite DSC, Clearfil Protect Bond, and the control. Futurabond DC resulted in the greatest roughness and biofilm amount. There was a close relationship between the quantity of biof…

Cell adhesion on UV-crosslinked polyurethane gels with adjustable mechanical strength and thermoresponsiveness

2021

Temperature-responsive polyurethane (PU) hydrogels represent a versatile material platform for modern tissue engineering and biomedical applications. However, besides intrinsic advantages such as high mechanical strength and a hydrolysable backbone composition, plain PU materials are generally lacking bio-adhesive properties. To overcome this shortcoming, the authors focus on the synthesis of thermoresponsive PU hydrogels with variable mechanical and cell adhesive properties obtained from linear precursor PUs based on poly(ethylene glycol)s (pEG) with different molar masses, isophorone diisocyanate, and a dimerizable dimethylmaleimide (DMMI)-diol. The cloud point temperatures of the dilute,…

Cell Adhesive and Antifouling Polyvinyl Chloride Surfaces Via Wet Chemical Modification

2012

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is one of the most frequently used polymers for the manufacturing of medical devices. Limitations for its usage are based upon unfavorable surface properties of the polymer including its hydrophobicity and lack of functionalities in order to increase its versatility. To address this issue, wet chemical modification of PVC was performed through surface amination using the bifunctional compound ethylene diamine. The reaction was conducted in order to achieve maximum surface amination while leaving the bulk material unaffected. The initial activation step was characterized by means of various methods including contact angle measurements, colorimetric amine quantificati…
