Management of giant cell arteritis: Recommendations of the French Study Group for Large Vessel Vasculitis (GEFA).

2016

Abstract Purpose Management of giant cell arteritis (GCA, Horton's disease) involves many uncertainties. This work was undertaken to establish French recommendations for GCA management. Methods Recommendations were developed by a multidisciplinary panel of 33 physicians, members of the French Study Group for Large Vessel Vasculitis (Groupe d’etude francais des arterites des gros vaisseaux [GEFA]). The topics to be addressed, selected from proposals by group members, were assigned to subgroups to summarize the available literature and draft recommendations. Following an iterative consensus-seeking process that yielded consensus recommendations, the degree of agreement among panel members was…

Physiotherapy for patients with anorexia nervosa

2013

The integration of physiotherapy as an adjunctive treatment for patients with an eating disorder within psychiatric health care and rehabilitation may sound unusual. However, physiotherapists have specific expertise in both the ‘body’ and ‘the body in movement’, two important issues integral to eating disorder pathology. Based on our clinical practice and the current body of scientific evidence, a rationale and clinical guidance for incorporating physiotherapy into treatment for patients with anorexia nervosa (AN) is presented. Two main indications for physiotherapy are proposed for patients with AN: (1) the distorted body experience with a specific focus on perception, attitudes, and behav…

Nondietary therapies for celiac disease.

2012

Currently, the only available therapy for celiac disease is strict lifelong adherence to a gluten-free diet (GFD). Although safe and effective, the GFD is not ideal. It is frequently expensive, of limited nutritional value, and not readily available in many countries. Consequently, a need exists for novel, nondietary therapies for celiac disease. Based on the current understanding of celiac disease pathogenesis, several potential targets of therapeutic intervention exist. These novel strategies provide promise of alternative, adjunctive treatment options but also raise important questions regarding safety, efficacy, and monitoring of long-term treatment effect.

Perampanel and Visuospatial Skills in Children With Epilepsy

2021

Introduction: Perampanel (PER) is a non-competitive AMPA glutamate receptor antagonist approved for focal and generalized seizures as add-on therapy. PER does not seem to negatively affect the cognitive profile in children and adolescents, but its influence on visuospatial abilities is still to be assessed. The aim of our study was to assess visuospatial skills through a standardized neuropsychological evaluation in adolescents taking PER for 12 months. Methods: Our sample included 46 adolescents aged 12–18 years with focal and generalized drug-resistant epilepsy already in therapy with one or two antiseizure medications. Changes in visuospatial perception and memory were assessed by the Rey…

Systematic review and meta-analysis of the efficacy and safety of minocycline in schizophrenia

2017

ObjectiveOur aim was to perform an updated systematic review and meta-analysis on the efficacy and safety of adjunctive minocycline as a treatment of schizophrenia.MethodsWe conducted a PubMed/Scopus database search from inception to 3 February 2016 for randomized, placebo-controlled trials (RCTs), open non-randomized studies, and case reports/series evaluating minocycline in patients with schizophrenia. Random-effects meta-analysis of positive, negative, depressive, and cognitive symptom rating scales, discontinuation and adverse effects rates calculating standardized mean difference (SMD), and risk ratios±95% confidence intervals (CI95%) were calculated.ResultsSix RCTs were eligible (mino…
