Using social responsibility to obtain employees´ commitment

2011

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon - Universitetet i Agder 2011 I remember the past semester in class of Strategic Marketing Management, the topic of the day was “Resource Dependent Theory” and the professor started to lecture saying: ... “A company is a collection of resource: physical resources, human resources and financial resources. The way how to organize them produce capabilities and the more capabilities in a company the more sustainable competitive advantage. If you need to choose just one resource, which one do you think is the crucial one?” Then after 2 minutes of discussion the whole class agreed on “HUMAN RESOURCES”. Human Resource is the main resource in a company, beca…

Masteroppgave i økonomi og administrasjon – Universitetet i Agder 2014 This thesis sought to study the influence of religion on corporate governance in Microfinance Institutions. The study uses secondary data on a sample of rated Christian and secular MFIs compiled in rating reports by rating agencies to compare the governance differences and similarities between Christian and secular MFIs. The research uses the random effects General Least Squares and logistic regression models alongside other univariate statistical methods to test for the effect of religious affiliation on corporate governance. The overall findings indicate that Christian MFIs are significantly less-regulated by banking a…

Presumption of Innocence and Deterrence

2018

This paper deals with the presumption of innocence and the law enforcer's incentives to exert investigative effort. Our main result is that, even if the presumption of guilt maximizes deterrence for a given effort by the law enforcer, divergent objectives between the law enforcer (who maximizes the probability of a conviction weighted by the magnitude of the sanction and the type of the citizen) and the public decision-maker (who minimizes social costs) may lead the latter to prefer the presumption of innocence. Indeed, the presumption of innocence may induce the law enforcer to increase investigative efforts thereby improving deterrence. As a consequence, if the law enforcer's effort is re…

LES TABLEAUX DE BORD DU CAPITAL INTELLECTUEL

2009

The Balanced Scorecard as a Knowledge Management Tool: A French Experience in a Semi-Public Insurance Company

2008

International audience; In this paper we present the Balanced Scorecard, a Strategic Control tool, which is quite famous all around the world and in the European countries. Federalism, Proportionality, and Popular Will in US Presidential Elections: Did Colorado Have the Right Idea?

2015

As is well known, the United States is a federal country composed of 50 states plus the District of Columbia, where the individual states and the country as a whole are each sovereign jurisdictions. This is reflected everywhere in its political-administrative structure, including the election of the US President, who is elected by the Electoral College and not directly by the people; an issue that provokes a confrontation between abolishers of the Electoral College and supporters of the current system each time a candidate not winning the most popular votes is elected President (last time in 2000 elections). Between both extremes, there are intermediate solutions that, while continuing to r…

Theoretical Old-Age Pension Benefits and Replacement Rates in the Baltic States: A Retrospective Simulation

2016

Abstract The author presents a comparative analysis of old-age pension systems in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania using a method of retrospective simulation run on a self-developed model. The model baseline case is a person retiring in December 2014 after 40 years of service with nationwide average salary. Other cases include low and high-earners, funded schemes participants and simulations for modified notional capital valorisation formulae. Three study countries return very dissimilar results, which is caused by differences in their pension systems’ designs. Lack of non-contributory element (basic pension) in Latvia leads to a low degree of progressivity, with inexcusably low pensions to lo…
