Evaluation of the DART 3D model in the thermal domain using satellite/airborne imagery and ground-based measurements

2011

This work provides an evaluation of the discrete anisotropy radiative transfer (DART) three-dimensional (3D) model in assessing the simulation of directional brightness temperatures (Tb) at both sensor and surface levels. Satellite imagery acquired with the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER), airborne imagery acquired with the Airborne Hyperspectral Scanner (AHS) sensor and ground-based measurements collected over an agricultural area were used to evaluate the DART model at nadir views. Directional radiometric temperatures measured with a goniometric system at ground level were also used to evaluate modelling results at different view angles. The DART mod…

Personalized multimedia touristic services for hybrid broadcast/broadband mobile receivers

2010

This paper presents the topology of a multimedia tourism service that targets mobile devices equipped with broadband and either multicast or broadcast access capabilities. Multicast / Broadcast access is used to handle the delivery of multimedia data to many simultaneous users in the service area. The solution adopted is based on existing standards for mobile TV services, but introducing features that enable the provision of generic multimedia services on top of mobile hybrid broadband and broadcast networks. Furthermore, this paper shows how to use standardized interfaces originally defined for interactive mobile TV broadcasting to build personalized mobile multimedia services that do not …

Combination of ozonation and photocatalysis for purification of aqueous effluents containing formic acid as probe pollutant and bromide ion

2014

The treatment by advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) of waters contaminated by organic pollutants and containing also innocuous bromide ions may generate bromate ions as a co-product. In the present work heterogeneous photocatalysis and ozonation have individually been applied and in combination (integrated process) to degrade the organic compounds in water containing also bromide anions. The results show that: i) the sole photocatalysis does not produce bromate ions and in the case of its presence, it is able to reduce bromate to innocuous bromide ions; ii) the integration of photocatalysis and ozonation synergistically enhances the oxidation capabilities; and iii) in the integrated proces…

Effects of glycation of the model food allergen ovalbumin on antigen uptake and presentation by human dendritic cells.

2010

Advanced glycation endproducts (AGEs) of food proteins resulting from the Maillard reaction after cooking or heating may have particular importance in food allergy. The underlying immunological mechanisms are only poorly understood. The aim of the study was to examine the effects of AGE derived from the model food allergen ovalbumin (AGE-OVA) on dendritic cells (DCs), their immunostimulatory capacity and the T-cell response compared with regular OVA. For this purpose, human immature DCs were exposed to fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labelled AGE-OVA and FITC-labelled regular OVA and uptake was analysed by flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy. Furthermore, autologous CD4(+) T-cell p…

Prospective Study of the Evolution of Blood Lymphoid Immune Parameters during Dacarbazine Chemotherapy in Metastatic and Locally Advanced Melanoma Pa…

2014

BackgroundThe importance of immune responses in the control of melanoma growth is well known. However, the implication of these antitumor immune responses in the efficacy of dacarbazine, a cytotoxic drug classically used in the treatment of melanoma, remains poorly understood in humans.MethodsIn this prospective observational study, we performed an immunomonitoring of eleven metastatic or locally advanced patients treated with dacarbazine as a first line of treatment. We assessed by flow cytometry lymphoid populations and their activation state; we also isolated NK cells to perform in vitro cytotoxicity tests.ResultsWe found that chemotherapy induces lymphopenia and that a significantly hig…

Phase III randomised clinical trial comparing primary surgery versus neoadjuvant chemotherapy in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer with high tumour …

2016

Abstract Objective To establishing whether neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) followed by interval debulking surgery (IDS) is superior primary debulking surgery (PDS) in terms of clinical outcome as well as peri-operative morbidity in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (AEOC) endowed with high tumour load (HTL). Material and methods This is a single-Institution, superiority, randomised phase III trial enrolling supposed AEOC women. Patients considered pre-operatively eligible were triaged to staging laparoscopy to assess the predictive index (PI) of tumour load. All AEOC women with PI ≥ 8 or ≤ 12 (considered as HTL) were included. They were randomly assigned (1:1 ratio) to undergo either PDS f…

Clinical outcomes with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab or lenvatinib in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma: a multicenter real-world study

2022

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare response rates of lenvatinib and atezolizumab plus bevacizumab, in first-line real-world setting. Methods: Overall cohort included Western and Eastern hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patient populations from 46 centres in 4 countries (Italy, Germany, Japan, and Republic of Korea). Results: 1312 patients were treated with lenvatinib, and 823 patients were treated with atezolizumab plus bevacizumab. Objective response rate (ORR) was 38.6% for patients receiving lenvatinib, and 27.3% for patients receiving atezolizumab plus bevacizumab (p < 0.01; odds ratio 0.60). For patients who achieved complete response (CR), overall survival (OS) was not …

Short-course radiotherapy followed by chemotherapy before TME in locally advanced rectal cancer: The randomized RAPIDO trial

2020

4006 Background: Local control in locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC) has improved. However, systemic relapses remain high even with postoperative chemotherapy, possibly due to low compliance. Short-course radiotherapy (SCRT) followed by delayed surgery with, in the waiting period, chemotherapy, may lead to better compliance, downstaging and fewer distant metastases. The main objective of the international multicenter phase III RAPIDO trial is to decrease Disease-related Treatment Failure (DrTF), defined as locoregional failure, distant metastasis, a new primary colon tumor or treatment-related death, by reducing the risk of systemic relapse without compromising local control. Methods: M…

A phase III trial-in-progress comparing tislelizumab plus chemotherapy with placebo plus chemotherapy as first-line therapy in patients with locally …

2019

TPS2655 Background: In patients (pts) with locally advanced or metastatic G/GEJ cancer, fluoropyrimidine- and platinum (plt)-based combination chemotherapy is first-line standard of care. Despite improvement in chemotherapy regimens, outcomes are poor and survival remains low. Tislelizumab, an investigational anti-PD-1 antibody, was engineered to minimize binding of FcγR on macrophages in order to abrogate antibody-dependent phagocytosis, a mechanism of T-cell clearance and potential resistance to anti-PD-1 therapy. Previous reports suggested tislelizumab, as a single agent and in combination with chemotherapy, was generally well tolerated and had antitumor activity in pts with advanced so…
