Abstract: Short stem uncemented femoral implants were developed with the aim of preserving proximal bone stock for future revisions, improving biomechanical reconstruction, aiding insertion through smaller incisions and potentially decreasing or limiting the incidence of thigh pain. Despite all the advantages of short stem designs, it remains unclear whether they are able to limit post-surgical thigh pain. Fluvoxamine but not sertraline inhibits the metabolism of olanzapine: evidence from a therapeutic drug monitoring service.

Therapeutic drug monitoring data of the new atypical neuroleptic drug olanzapine were used to study interactions with the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors fluvoxamine and sertraline. The distribution of the ratio of concentration/daily dose (C/D; ng/mL per mg/d) of olanzapine was compared in three groups: patients treated with olanzapine (n = 134), patients treated with olanzapine plus fluvoxamine (n = 10) concomitantly, and patients treated with olanzapine plus sertraline (n = 21) concomitantly. Abstract Aim To assess the activity and safety of non-pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (Myocet®) in combination with docetaxel and trastuzumab as first-line treatment of patients with HER-2/neu-positive metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Patients and methods The maximum tolerated dose of the combination was defined in the phase I part of the study. Introduction Cancer patients tend to prefer oral instead of parenteral chemotherapy. To date, there is little evidence on the medication adherence in cancer patients. We investigated medication adherence to tyrosine kinase inhibitors in patients suffering from non-small cell lung cancer. Methods Tyrosine kinase inhibitor adherence was measured electronically by MEMS® (medication event monitoring system) over at least six months. Safety and activity of trastuzumab-containing therapies for the treatment of metastatic breast cancer: our long-term clinical experience (GOIM study).

Background: Trastuzumab is widely used as the treatment of choice for HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Patients and methods: Seventy patients, median age 57 years and range 31-81 years, were included in our retrospective analysis with the aim to evaluate safety and activity of trastuzumab-containing therapies. Results: We observed for first-line treatment response rate (RR) 41%, stable disease (SD) 47% and time to progression (TTP) 8 months (range 1-44). Corresponding numbers for second line were RR 23%, SD 62% and (TTP) 9 months (range 3-23) and beyond second line RR 22%, SD 78% and (TTP) 9 months (range 4-19).
