The subject of this article is culinary trends observable in Polish cities during the past few years. They include both the rediscovered practices, directly related to the cultural (culinary) heritage of a particular area, and these which have become popular only recently. According to the author, characteristic culinary fads are: the promotion of local delicacies on a large scale, growing interest in shopping in farmers’ markets offering organic produce (bio-markets) and traditional goods, growing popularity of street food (including street food festivals and picnics), and organizing the so called “breakfast on the grass” events.
Diagrammatic Expansion for Positive Spectral Functions in the Steady-State Limit

Recently, a method was presented for constructing self-energies within many-body perturbation theory that are guaranteed to produce a positive spectral function for equilibrium systems, by representing the self-energy as a product of half-diagrams on the forward and backward branches of the Keldysh contour. We derive an alternative half-diagram representation that is based on products of retarded diagrams. Our approach extends the method to systems out of equilibrium. When a steady-state limit exists, we show that our approach yields a positive definite spectral function in the frequency domain.
Data Reweighting in Metadynamics Simulations.

The data collected along a metadynamics simulation can be used to recover information about the underlying unbiased system by means of a reweighting procedure. Here, we analyze the behavior of several reweighting techniques in terms of the quality of the reconstruction of the underlying unbiased free energy landscape in the early stages of the simulation and propose a simple reweighting scheme that we relate to the other techniques. We then show that the free energy landscape reconstructed from reweighted data can be more accurate than the negative bias potential depending on the reweighting technique, the stage of the simulation, and the adoption of well-tempered or standard metadynamics. …

Remote sensing of solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) is a rapidly advancing front in terrestrial vegetation science, with emerging capability in space-based methodologies and diverse application prospects. Although remote sensing of SIF – especially from space – is seen as a contemporary new specialty for terrestrial plants, it is founded upon a multi-decadal history of research, applications, and sensor developments in active and passive sensing of chlorophyll fluorescence. Current technical capabilities allow SIF to be measured across a range of biological, spatial, and temporal scales. The role of noise on the steady state distributions of phytoplankton populations

The spatio-temporal behaviour of total chlorophyll concentration is investigated in the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea by using a stochastic approach. The study is based on a reaction-diffusion-taxis model, which is used to analyse the dynamics of five phytoplankton groups, responsible for about 80% of the total chlorophyll a inside the euphotic zone of the water column. International audience; Commercial soybean inoculants processed with sterilised peat and stored at 20 °C for 1–8 years were used as experimental materials to assess the changes in the physiological activity of Bradyrhizobium japonicum after storage. Viable counts decreased and physiological characteristics of the bacterium changed during storage, with an increase in the time taken for colony appearance on a medium without yeast extract, an increase in the lag time for nodule appearance on soybean grown in glass tubes and a decrease in survival on seeds. Evaluation of microbiological and physico‐chemical parameters of retail ready‐to‐eat mono‐varietal salads

An integrated microbiological and physico-chemical approach was applied to evaluate the decay of mono-varietal ready-to-eat escarole (Cichorium endivia var. latifolium) and red chicory (Cichorium intybus L. var. foliosum Hegi) during refrigeration. Total mesophilic microorganisms, including pseudomonads, and total psychrotrophic microorganisms were detected at high numbers in all samples just after packaging and at the expiry date. The dominant microbial populations analyzed by classical culture-dependent methods belonged to Pseudomonas and yeasts. AbstractDespite conservation discourses in Madagascar increasingly emphasizing the role of customary institutions for wildlife management, we know relatively little about their effectiveness. Here, we used semi-structured interviews with 54 adults in eight villages to investigate whether sacred caves and taboos offer conservation benefits for cave-dwelling bats in and around Tsimanampetsotsa National Park, south-west Madagascar. Although some caves were described as sites of spiritual significance for the local communities, most interviewees (c. 76%) did not recognize their present-day sacred status. Modelling chemical composition in electric systems - implications to the dynamics of dye-sensitised solar cells

International audience; Classical electromagnetism provides limited means to model electric generators. To extend the classical theory in this respect, additional information on microscopic processes is required. In semiconductor devices and electrochemical generators such information may be obtained by modelling chemical composition. Here we use this approach for the modelling of dye-sensitised solar cells. We simulate the steady-state current-voltage characteristics of such a cell, as well as its transient response. Dynamic simulations show optoelectronic hysteresis in these cells under transient light pulse illumination.
