The use of numerical simulations for investigating machining processes is remarkably increasing because of the simulation cost is lower than the experiments and the possibility to analyze local variables such as pressures, strains, and temperatures is allowable. Process simulation is very hard from a computational point of view, since it frequently requires remeshing phases and very small time steps. Presence of mycotoxins in ready-to-eat food and subsequent risk assessment

Abstract A study on a set of ready-to-eat meals (n = 328) based on cereals, legumes, vegetables, fish and meat was carried out to determine the natural presence of twenty-seven mycotoxins by both liquid chromatography and gas chromatography coupled mass spectrometry in tandem (MS/MS) after QuEChERS extraction. The occurrence of mycotoxins was headed by cereal samples with 35% of samples contaminated by at least one mycotoxin followed by vegetables (32%), legumes (15%) and lastly, 9% of fish and meat samples were contaminated. Low-temperature metastabilization of tetragonal V+4-containing ZrO2 solid solutions

Abstract The formation and characterization of tetragonal vanadium–zirconia solid solutions with different vanadium contents have been investigated. Vanadium–zirconia precursors were prepared by gelling mixtures of zirconium n-propoxide and vanadyl acetylacetonate, and studied over the range of temperature up to the tetragonal–monoclinic phase transformation. The formation of the tetragonal phase has been investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). It was found that it took place after annealing around 450°C for all specimens independently of the vanadium loading. In order to establish the mode of the anti-inflammatory activity of triterpenoids, 11 naturally occurring compounds were assayed on mouse ear oedema induced by the protein kinase C activators, mezerein, 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), two 12-deoxyphorbol-13-monoesters (13-tetradecanoate (DPT) and 13-phenylacetate (DPP)) and bryostatin 1, and by resiniferatoxin, xylene and arachidonic acid. The effects on bradykinin-induced paw oedema and on the rat skin inflammation caused by hydrogen peroxide were also examined. Influence of the initial sludge characteristics and acclimation on the longterm performance of double-compartment acetate-fed microbial fuel cells

Abstract In this work, three double-compartment MFCs (DC-MFC) were operated for 1 month in order to compare their performances in terms of wastewater treatment capacity and electricity production and to get information about how this performance is influenced by the start-up procedure. To do this, they underwent different start-up procedures. Street-vended ready-to-eat food sold in Egypt, including sandwiches and dishes of traditional food, was examined for the presence ofListeriaspecies. Out of 576 samples, 24% were found to containListeriaspecies.L. monocytogenesandL. innocuawere isolated from 57% and 39% of the contaminated samples, respectively. Abstract Denitrification, the reduction of nitrate to nitrous oxide or dinitrogen, is the major biological mechanism by which fixed nitrogen returns to the atmosphere from soil and water. Microorganisms capable of denitrification are widely distributed in the environment but little is known about their abundance since quantification is performed using fastidious and time-consuming MPN-based approaches. On the Mechanism of Gold/NHC Compounds Binding to DNA G-Quadruplexes: Combined Metadynamics and Biophysical Methods

The binding modes and free-energy landscape of two AuI /N-heterocyclic carbene complexes interacting with G-quadruplexes, namely a human telomeric (hTelo) and a promoter sequence (C-KIT1), are studied here for the first time by metadynamics. The theoretical results are validated by FRET DNA melting assays and provide an accurate estimate of the absolute gold complex/DNA binding free energy. This advanced in silico approach is valuable to achieve rational drug design of selective G4 binders.
