Generalised Maxwell-Garnett equation: application to electrical and chemical transport.

2006

In this paper we discuss the implementation of different equilibrium concentrations in each of the phases into the Maxwell-Garnett effective medium formula for diffusion in heterogeneous media. We put the derivation given by Kalnin et al., J. Phys. Chem. Solids, 2002, 63, 449, on safer grounds and extend it to non-dilute carrier concentrations. The relation to Maxwell’s mixing rule is also elaborated. It is shown that the formula can not only successfully be applied to conductivity problems but also to describe steady state chemical diffusion in heterogeneous media such as polycrystalline samples. The comparison with the brick layer model corroborates these points but also shows that—in the…

Statistics of residence time for Lévy flights in unstable parabolic potentials

2020

We analyze the residence time problem for an arbitrary Markovian process describing nonlinear systems without a steady state. We obtain exact analytical results for the statistical characteristics of the residence time. For diffusion in a fully unstable potential profile in the presence of Lévy noise we get the conditional probability density of the particle position and the average residence time. The noise-enhanced stability phenomenon is observed in the system investigated. Results from numerical simulations are in very good agreement with analytical ones.

From a fixed bed Ag–alumina catalyst to a modified reactor design: how to enhance the crucial heterogeneous–homogeneous reactions in HC-SCR

2004

Abstract A highly active Ag/alumina catalyst for continuous reduction of NO to nitrogen with n-octane under lean conditions was prepared. It was observed in the reactor set-up experiments for optimization of the converter, that surface generated gas phase species are crucial for obtaining high conversion. EPR and matrix isolated FTIR studies at low temperature (10–18 K) were performed for identification of the radicals. Experimental data, observed at steady state conditions in the temperature range 300–550 °C, was used to produce an artificial neural network model of the catalytic converter with four catalyst beds.

Using Unfold-PCA for batch-to-batch start-up process understanding and steady-state identification in a sequencing batch reactor

2007

In chemical and biochemical processes, steady-state models are widely used for process assessment, control and optimisation. In these models, parameter adjustment requires data collected under nearly steady-state conditions. Several approaches have been developed for steady-state identification (SSID) in continuous processes, but no attempt has been made to adapt them to the singularities of batch processes. The main aim of this paper is to propose an automated method based on batch-wise unfolding of the three-way batch process data followed by a principal component analysis (Unfold-PCA) in combination with the methodology of Brown and Rhinehart 2 for SSID. A second goal of this paper is to…

Anomalous diffusion and nonlinear relaxation phenomena in stochastic models of interdisciplinary physics

2020

The study of nonlinear dynamical systems in the presence of both Gaussian and non-Gaussian noise sources is the topic of this research work. In particular, after shortly present new theoretical results for statistical characteristics in the framework of Markovian theory, we analyse four different physical systems in the presence of Levy noise source. (a) The residence time problem of a particle subject to a non-Gaussian noise source in arbitrary potential profile was analyzed and the exact analytical results for the statistical characteristics of the residence time for anomalous diffusion in the form of Levy flights in fully unstable potential profile was obtained. Noise enhanced stability …

Clerodane diterpenoids from Salvia splendens.

2006

Four new clerodane diterpenoids, salvisplendins A-D (1-4), have been isolated from an acetone extract of the flowers of SalVia splendens, together with an artifact (5), arising from salvisplendin D (4) by addition of diazomethane, and the already known clerodane olearin (6). The structures of the new compounds (1-5) were established mainly by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic studies and, in the case of salvisplendin A (1), by chemical correlation with splenolide B (7). Complete 1H and 13C NMR assignments for olearin (6), not published hitherto, are also reported.

1980

A phenomenological theory of the Phase Distribution Chromatography (PDC)-separation effect is outlined and a theoretical equation for the measured PDC-calibration curves is given. Assuming a reversible-thermodynamical equilibrium in the polystyrene-PDC-column, only a relatively small part of the measured PDC-calibration curves could be explained: namely those running below their tangents. In order to explain the whole sigmoidal shape of the experimental curves, a theory of steady state in the system sol/gel was developed assuming deformation of the polymer coil near the gel front due to the stress related to the velocity gradient. The resulting dynamical flow-equilibrium differs highly from…

High-pressure studies of topological insulators Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3, and Sb2Te3

2013

Bi2Se3, Bi2Te3, and Sb2Te3 are narrow bandgap semiconductors with tetradymite crystal structure (R-3m) which have been extensively studied along with their alloys due to their promising operation as thermoelectric materials in the temperature range between 300 and 500¿K. Studies on these layered semiconductors have increased tremendously in the last years since they have been recently predicted and demonstrated to behave as 3D topological insulators. In particular, a number of high-pressure studies have been done in the recent years in these materials. In this work we summarize the main results of the high-pressure studies performed in this family of semiconductors to date. In particular, w…

Adwent w liturgiach Kościołów syryjskich ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem tradycji zachodnio-syryjskiej

2022
